“Unbelievable Food”
Reviewed October 15, 2013 via mobile

I travel a lot and eat in dozens of fine restaurants every year. This is on top of my list! Seafood platter was unbelievable, steak was perfect and the service was tremendous. I can't wait to get back.

Thank Ken D

“Great Steakhouse (old school style)”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

If you like the old school steakhouses then this is the place. Big everything! Prime meats, artisan breads, delicious side dishes and great servers. We ordered the spicy lobster chopped salad to share and it was excellent, too. All sides and salads are definitely plenty to share. Paco was our server this time and he and his assistant took great care of our table. Great ambiance throughout. This time we sat in the enclosed porch and had a great view of the bustle of the street and diners outside.

“Totally obnoxious hostess!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

We were visiting from NY and really excited to try Gibsons. Upon entering the hostess did not even crack a smile and asked if we had reservations - we said yes and she then said we still had to wait at the bar (our reservations were for 6 pm and I could see the dining room was still half empty). After waiting for 15 mins, we asked and she said we still had to wait. After waiting for 30 mins, we asked again and she said it'll be another 5-10 mins and must stress through all of this she never smiled and was completely rude. At this point, I reminded her we had reservations 30 mins ago and insisted we get seated and at that point she has another hostess take us to this horrible table right outside of the kitchen swing door!! There really shouldn't even be a table there and it was clearly the worst table in the place! I absolutely refused to be seated there and explained we made our reservations 6 weeks prior and this was outrageous! We were finally seated at a normal table and had an average meal and were so fumed by the way our evening started, we will never return to Gibsons. Later on another hostess came over to check on us and she was nice but the long straight dark haired hostess with bangs was so obnoxious and a horrible person to choose for that role. Save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere - Chicago is full of amazing steakhouses and our hotel concierge at the Peninsula set us up with some incredible places for the rest of our stay in Chicago (Chicago Cut Steakhouse was amazing and their hostess was a delight from the minute we entered and seated us right away).

“Big Steak after a Big Marathon”
Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

My meal at Gibsons after running the Chicago Marathon was just what I needed and deserved! My filet mignon was perfectly cooked and the sides ordered were a perfect accompaniment !! Everything was super sized so unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert! I did catch a peek at the dessert and all I can say is WOW!!!!! Our service was very good with attention to detail. I will be back!!

“Great steaks - if someone else buying”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Loved the steak, but pricey!! $42 for a 16oz bone-in sirloin. Steaks went up to $99 for a thick cut porterhouse.
Fantastic meat as long as someone else is paying - but at Gibson's you've got to expect that.
Oh, and don't get the asparagus, it's like tree trunks. Asparagus is supposed to be thin, no more than 3/8ths of an inch in diameter at the base.
