“Corkage fee”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

I want to correct the review of a previous poster as this was misleading to us when we went yesterday. There *is* a corkage fee of $5 for BYOB. I guess the $5 charge covers the bottle opener which was lent to us to open the bottle ourselves.
Other than that the setting is nice, it's easy parking and the food is not bad, but I wouldn't call it the best french food in Chicago for the price (we thought the 4 shrimps appetizer for $11 was a bit high). The mushroom appetizer was good. The menu is fairly limited in choices but maybe it's because the restaurant apparently opened not so long ago. About the service, we had to wait quite a long time to get seated but we went there for Valentine's day so it looks that the restaurant was short-staffed. We will probably go back eventually.

“WOW! WHAT A FIND!”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

Chicago's Chez Simo Bistro at 1968 W. Lawrence Avenue might not look like a FIVE STAR restaurant on the outside, but it's what's on the inside that counts, and on the inside it is FIVE STARS all the way. The Ragout de Champignons (appetizer) was spectacular. The Salmon was superb and cooked to perfection and the Chicken Roti was moist and seasoned perfectly. The Steak au Poivre can described as the best in Chicago, and the Vegetarian Pasta (cooked to order) was magnificent. The service was friendly and efficient, but never over-bearing. They have a nice wine list, but it is also a BYOB restaurant with NO CORKAGE FEE. The music playing in the background is pleasant and somehow appropriate to the setting (Edith Piaf when we sat down). It doesn't get much better than this. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

“Excellent French Bistro”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This is a quintessential French bistro located in an out-of-they-way area of the city. We discovered it quite by accident, but loved it. Nothing fusion or ultra-creative about the cooking, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s solid, delicious, French bistro fare, and on that they have succeeded. The service, décor, and food are all excellent. The restaurant is BYOB so we can bring our favorite wine, which adds to the fun.
