Description: Gioco pioneered the retail development of the South Loop when it opened in September of 1999. The restaurant has been a mainstay in the neighborhood as other restaurants and stores have opened up over the years. Gioco is located in an historic building built in 1890 and is one of the few remaining buildings in Chicago from that era. The Gioco space features the original old brick and plaster walls, an old wooden walk-in cooler and a walk-in safe built into the wall, used by the Chicago gangsters (Al Capone, Frank Nitti, George "Bugs" Moran and Earl "Hymie" Weiss ) for one of the gambling and/or brothel houses that dominated the area in the early 1900s. Designer Jerry Kleiner designed Gioco restaurant to retain these old world elements and to feature them in his modernization of the space.

“Will Come Back”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

Not much around McCormick Center for meals so we walked up to this place for a delightful meal. Not crowded and easy to get a table. Wine was good and fresh as well as the food. Only complaint, the pizza could have been cooked a few minutes longer.

“Neighborhood feel, international flavor”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

This South Loop neighborhood favorite is perfect for locals and tourists alike. A short cab ride from the Mc Cormick Center provides a great Chicago neighborhood setting for out-of-towners.
Comfort food and an always welcoming atmosphere--what more can one ask for?

This delightful spot has a newly reworked menu which offers traditional favorites coupled with seasonal newbies. A great place to share a bottle of wine, mussels and the daily grilled fish. The pasta and risotto are always a sure bet...as are the scallops.

“You're Not a Customer, You're Family”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

I'm becoming a regular at Gioco's, because I am treated like family whenever I go. I had a spontaneous dinner with a good friend. We were hungry, but didn't have anything in particular in mind. Gaetano the owner took charge and started cooking wonderful things right away. He improvised a sauteed shellfish dish with octopus, sent a pan seared fois gras accented by spiced apple and old balsamico sitting in beurre blanc sauce (to die for!). We an actual pasta carbonara and then had pork and lamb roasted perfectly. More importantly, he made us feel like family and our casual dinner felt like a celebration. Other patrons were asking what we were celebrating!! That's why I'm becoming a regular here.

“Out of this World!”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Went with friends on a Sunday evening for dinner. The chef himself went around the dining room greeting the guests, and helped make our dinner selections. He also suggested a couple of wines to compliment our dinners. You could see how much he appreciates his patrons and is so knowledgeable about his cuisine and wine list. My friends who were with me (who are from Chicago) said he often gets out into the dining room. The rest of the staff was also very accommodating and friendly. The food...excellent! Portions are generous and flavorful. We went simple on dessert and shared the sorbet trio...yeah yeah yeah, it's sorbet...but this was great sorbet. I will go back on a return trip to Chicago. Oh and another thing...don't snub your nose at South Loop restaurants. There are some wonderful hidden gems in this emerging culinary area of the city.
