“Good food, but not spectacular”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

I went on a South Indian food-tasting drive last week and ended up here. Among the Devon restaurants, this is good, but not the best. Service is a bit sketchy as well, but not too bad. I had the lunch special with the idly and the special mysore dosa -- do ask for gunpowder on the side if you like your food spicy as the base taste seems modified for Americans. Loved their spiced buttermilk.

“Fine south india food”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

The lunch weekday specials are very filling at a reasonable price. The owner himself tends to customers. One fine place on Devon Avenue the heart of Indian and Pakistani stores

“Lesson learnt - should never fall for a name of a desi restaurant here”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

Agreed - this is a place for vegetarian food that's tasty and you also get some popular veg dishes such as masala dosas and idli-vadas... but not every restaurant with the tag 'Mysore' to it becomes a Mysore restaurant. Compared to other veg restaurants in the US and on devon street the food might seem tasty but the food isn't Mysore style. I know since I've grown up all my life in Mysore.

We tried a masala vada, a mysore masala dosa and a bisi bele bhath. The most disappointing was the BBB, which was merely a khichdi, with no trace of tamarind, which anyone from Mysore can tell you, is an essential ingredient. The aloo curry and sambar were typical north indian (actually seemed Mumbai-ish) preparations and in fact the sambar was just 'daal'. Also the mysore style would never involve customizing the masala vada with so much somph..

It was tasty food but wasnt what we expected, which meant we felt cheated. Others might actually like it if they dont go in with high expectations. I agree with the service as well, I tried hard to look for a hint of smile on the faces but they meant business (only!)

“Great South Indian Vegetarian Food - Nonchalant Service”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

Pros -
- ALL-Vegetarian Heaven
- Traditional / Authentic South Indian Food - some North Indian items available as well
- Some of the best Dosa's around
- Efficient Service
- Very Indian feeling (good thing for me anyway) - real Indians come to eat here
- Very reasonably priced

Cons -
- Service very mechanical - no greetings, no hellos, no thank-yous - makes service very efficient, but somewhat careless - need to put-up with, for the quality food they serve
- Noisy "crowded" ambience
- Parking is a challenge (as always, on Devon street) - not the fault of this restaurant though

Would deserve a rating of 5 (excellent) but for the service.
