“Chicago Tradition Lives On”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

My first visit to Ann Sathers was in 1979, when Ann herself walked among the tables in the brightly painted restaurant distributing her delectable cinnamon rolls. Things have changed slightly since those days, Ann passed on but the place remains faithful to her vision with home cooked Swedish food, breads, reasonably priced. But get there early they now close at 3 PM.

“Salmon omelette, potato sausage, sweet rolls, & bottomless coffee”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

It's a diner, but the fare is... Swedish, I guess.

The potato sausage is scrumptious, but it should be taken as a side dish-to-pass, not a main course. The salmon omelette is ample, and exactly what ought to happen to smoked-salmon scraps and eggs. The warm sweet rolls are beyond divine. I don't even particularly like sweet rolls generally, but these were exceptional. The coffee was good and the server kept it topped up, which was very nice.

“Cinnamon Rolls”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

My family ate at Ann Sather's at the recommendation of our hotel manager. (Actually, all I heard was "great cinnamon rolls.") This place is now one of my favoriate breakfast joints in the world...seriously. (Why are they all in Chicago???) The food includes traditional american breakfast, but also includes variety including swedish options. As noted in some of the other reviews, with your breakfast you get two "sides." One of the optional sides is the now famous cinnamon rolls. Note that you get two massive cinnamon rolls as ONE of the sides.

At this point in the breakfast, my healthy diet has become an afterthought. We took home several cinnamon rolls, because, we simply could not eat them all. However, savoring the rolls the next morning, I want to go back. Good coffee, too!

Highly recommended. We arrived at 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday, and were seated immediately. Top notch wait staff. The restaurant is located a short walk from the Belmont stop.
