We decided to visit after learning about the place from a tv show. The atmosphere is lacking - one large room with tables on top of tables. Their famed steak lacked flavor as did the two sauces. Service was fine. BYOB during the week was a plus. I won't go there the next time I have a craving for steak. I

I like this place a lot because of the food, the platter--grill flank steak with shrmip is excellent value and great flavor, the empanada and the seafood platter are also very very good. However their service is very slow, the host is not very efficent and last time when we went with groupon, they weren't very nice about it. So prepare for the long wait, I will only go during weekday night.

We bought a coupon for this restaurant because we wanted to try Colombian food.
The portions are crazy huge!
We started with Pulpitos al carbon, baby octopus marinated in a garlic. It was delicious!
For main dish we had the Entraña and the Churrasco.
The meat was tender and juicy and was kept warm on a flat top in the plate. The fried yuca and plantain were yummy!
The waiter told us that Las tablas was the place to be for Sunday brunch!

We had never had Colombian food before, and expected something very similar to standard Mexican fare. While there are similar ingredients, the combinations and flavors are very different, and a nice change. The menu at Las Tablas is very heavy on meats, although there are several seafood items and a couple of vegetarian options. We made dinner out of appetizers, and were very satisfied. First was the combination plate of empanadas, 2 each stuffed with beef, pork, and chicken. The crust of the empanadas was very crisp, and the fillings were all good. We especiallly liked the salsa-like sauce that was served: made of cilantro, lime and jalapeno peppers. We also had marinated and grilled shrimp -- the grilled flavor was a nice touch. The last was an unusual dish made of soft corn bread stuffed with shredded beef and cheese. Very different, but good. We will come back for the combination plate entree, with various options of grilled meats, chicken, and seafood to choose from, served with plantains, yucca, and roast potatoes. We shared a flan for dessert, with a hint of coconut. Very smooth, not too sweet, not heavy. The service was extremely friendly and helpful, although a bit slow due to understaffing for the night during the holidays and a totally full house. Our server assured us that is not the norm. The wine list was primarily South American, with a decent variety and very reasonable prices. Another bonus: customers can bring their own wine to the restaurant if they wish. The decor is very appealing --warm and cozy. Overall, a very nice experience and good value.
