“I recently visited Nonno Pino for dinner...”
Reviewed August 31, 2010

I recently visited Nonno Pino for dinner one night with my boyfriend. I like to order appetizers and he always likes to order desserts. We ordered the baked clams thinking they would be quite good.......considering we are in a well known Italian restaurant. The
"clams" were not what anyone
would think clams were if they ever
had decent clams before......
Instead of whole baked clams, they were chopped up clams with about 75% breading- a cheap way of doing clams.
We had ordered salads. I had asked for the beet salad and my boyfriend got a regular house salad. The house salad arrived ( everything took a really long time to come out
of the kitchen, but the restaurant
was not busy) and maybe 15
minutes later( this was not the
server's fault, he explained it was
the kitchen's fault) my beet salad
arrived, but with much
disappointment. There was maybe
one fourth of a beet sprinkled on top. Weakest beet salad I've ever had. Our entrees were nothing to write home about-- DEFINITELY NOT worth the wait! So after about 2 hours for "authentic Italian food," (ha) we opted not to get any dessert.... Who knows how long we would have been waiting.... And how it would have tasted. If I had to say one positive about the whole experience-- it would have been my glass of wine, it was a malbec, but that is not saying very much.

“Excellent Value Italian Restaurant”
Reviewed October 21, 2007

My husband and I live in the Edison Park neighborhood, but only recently discovered Nonno Pino. However, now that we have, we've been back a number of times over the last few months. The ambience, quality of the food and service are great, but the value is excellent. The prices are relatively low and portions large enough so we always take home a second meal. (Don't let another person's negative review keep you away; everyone is human and has a bad day every now and then!) We eat out in greater Chicago quite often, and Nonno Pino has become one of our neighborhood faves. My husband loves the Asiago chicken, and I heartily recommend any of the seafood daily specials. Plus, the restaurant is open on Mondays.
