Description: As soon as you walk through the doors of The Grill on the Alley in Chicago, you are transported to another time and place reminiscent of the great American grills of yesteryear. The unique decor has an elegant feel with its polished hard wood floors, leather banquettes, and white linen tablecloths. A virtual art gallery adorns the walls of our many dining rooms while the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald linger in the background as white-jacketed waiters attend to your every need. Since opening in June 2000, this high-end steak and seafood house has made its mark on Chicago with locals, and tourists alike. The Grill has become one of the most popular places to gather for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all types of special occasions. Located on the floor level of the Westin Hotel, The Grill on the Alley is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago with easy access to the McCormick Place Convention Center, shops, museums and theaters.

This was my second visit to The Grill for dinner as it is close to my hotel, The Drake. Don't get me wrong it is a fine dining restaurant. While the food is good I don't think it is worth what they are charging. Our waiter started out friendly and seemed to tail off in his service until the end when he amazingly became better. The whole dinner experience seemed to drag on too long. I ordered the one crab cake which was from the appetizer menu (still cost $17 I think). It was good but not the best crab cake in the world. Overall for the experience, price and food, they want you to believe when you walk in that this is a top notch fine dining restaurant when it is just a good fine dining restaurant.

I had dinner here with a friend and having been to the location in Beverly Hills I was expecting the same level of food and service. Sadly it was just not the same. The food was good but nothing special. The service definitely was not up to par in terms of what I expected. I probably would not go back.

Ate here with family recently and had yet another excellent experience. Not terribly busy at lunch hour on a Saturday at the start of the holiday shopping season, but probably due to the fact it is in a hotel, and some people avoid hotel restaurants. This one is fine - one might be able to obtain similar food nearby for about 10% lower prices, but the menu has a large number of choices, the service is always pleasant , and the food quality excellent. This is not haute cuisine, but they do what they do quite well. The four of us had Greek salad with shrimp, Cobb salad, crab cake sandwich, and the cheeseburger. Large portions, and we didn't leave very much on the plates. Excellent beer selection - pleasant atmosphere. Hard to improve on this restaurant in the North Michigan area unless one reserves in advance. Highly recommended for a spur-of-the-moment dining choice. Won't hesitate to eat here again next time we are in the area.

We ate there last saturday night, right after watching broadway show. We had reservations to few other places but all were for about 8-830 and we didnt want to eat that late. We walked around Michigan Ave and decided to walk in and ask if they would have a table. They did. Not sure if that was a good or a bad sign at 7 pm sat night in Chicago but we decided to try. Nice guy lead us to the table and waiter was at the table in just a few minutes after him. We were taking care of with water, drinks, and fresh bread in just under 3 min. We ordered food, and that was done and on our table within next 10 min. We both had chicken. After we had brownie with icecream. Over all food was good, staff was always there very attentive. Place was clean and very calm. Bar section seemed to be a lot more crowded. Prices are deffinetly not sky high, compare to others.

Enjoyed our meal at this restaurant on a business trip to Chicago. Not as busy as one might think for a Saturday evening in Chicago. Service was very attentive and friendly. The steak was very good but not great. Side item (spinach mashed potatoes) were interesting and very good. Good choice for a business meal without the extended wait of some of the other more famous places in the city.
