Went here Sunday night...was immediately greeted warmly and seated outside in the garden..Really have nothing new to add that others haven't said but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.. Bread so good with choices of tapenade and salted butter. Our appetizers were very satisfying...Grilled Calamari and the Escargots. My entree, Steak Frites was slightly overcooked to medium when i prefer medium rare so i traded with my partner who had the Coq au Vin and i definitely didn't miss the Steak as the Chicken was so juicy and full of flavor. I did manage to steal a few of the fries and boy were they excellent...very thin and crispy just how i like them. For dessert we shared the Almond Gateaux..wonderful and light. Would definitely return to this restaurant as the price of the dinner was very reasonable for the quality and preparation of the dishes serviced.

Upscale neighborhood bistro with nice patio and good food. Gets a four because the ambience, wine and service were excellent (5) most food items 4s with a few 3s. For appetizers try the mussels, tomato salad and grilled calamari (latter not for everyone). House salad was large and delicious. Coquille St Jacques, though, only so so. Asparagus risotto very very tasty (but a little dry). Same for Coq au Vin. Fish entree of the day--salmon--was excellent. Table bread was also excellent. It's pricey but worth it. We'd go back.

We went with another couple and had a great evening. A small little restaurant with white table clothes and good service .It was a very friendly place and we had an excellent waiter. The menu was more of a old style french menu but very good. Two of us had a sea bass special over potatoes with a nice assortment of vegetables. My wife had cassoulet and enjoyed it very much. Our other friend had a chicken preparation that was very good. It was not a stuffy or fancy place. It was just an old fashion, comfortable French restaurant with good wholesome food and great service.

Moved away from Chicago a couple of years ago, but for many years frequented this restaurant. The food was always amazing and the service just as great. I do really miss this wonderful neighborhood restaurant.

Been a big fan of Taylor Street dining for years. Never patronized Chez Joel because it seemed out of place -- who'd have thought a French bistro in an Italian neighborhood would be any good. On a whim, stopped in last week and was thoroughly delighted. The food was excellent, the drinks varied, and the staff friendly. Will return soon.
