Ever seen Avocado Pakoras? Mint and Mango Lassi?! No? Then you must go to this restaurant to tickle your taste buds at this unique restaurant that offers a fusion of Latin and Indian cuisine! Their menu is quite interesting but they could do a better job with the decor. I tried the gobhi Portuguese and thought that the blend of spices was rather exotic. It came with an aubergine chip and this out of the world Cilantro-tamarind chutney!

It is noteworthy that their portions are not very big. So if you are very hungry, you better order your extra naan right away!

The menu is certainly a new idea that I haven't seen in Chicago before. It's in a prime location and the dim lighting and low noise level makes it ideal for a date or conversation between friends. Service is great, but make sure to ask for a vegetarian menu as we weren't given one right away. Wine and cocktails are expensive but standard for the area (around $15 a piece), so drinks alone can easily add $70 to the bill. I would say the entrees lean heavier on the Indian side so if you aren't a fan of more exotic flavors or spicy food then stick to the tapas for your main course. Scallops are great as are the artichoke pakoras. Don't waste your time on the salad or desserts.

Terrific waiter. Pleasant decor. Quality food and fine presentation.
We discovered our favorite downtown restaurant, India House, closed for renovation, so we went to nearby Vermillion that gets good marks from CHICAGO MAGIZINE. Wee were not disappointed.

First impression : not exactly welcomed ,taken to our table. That was about it.
Second: No offer of pre drinks or cocktails, assistant arrived with a massive water jug ,may as well have used a fire hose to fill the glass, only thing missing from the jug were the gold fish. One glass still had lipstick from previous use ,yuk!!
Third:practically every plate was presented with "skid marks" (ie. the swipe of sauce ,/ coulis etc) guys that is so old hat ,we are in 2013 !! Please.
Wine glasses have got such thick lips ,you must have a big Botox bill.Obviously all your crockery has no under glaze as black scratch marks on all plates look distasteful.
Fourth:Chefs please use sauces not pastes! Everything was "pastey" nothing had a flowing sauce on it.
Fifth: you want to offer a fine dining experience ? Then do it.Don't just charge for it.For gods sake ,get a better wine list ,it is embarrassing ,"Trader Joes " has a better one.
Sixth: Vermillion has the right ingredients , you just have to get the recipe right.Try a bit harder ,you will get there.

What an interesting idea - Indian Latin fusion. I just had lunch there and it was delicious. Upon arrival, we were offered a vegetarian and/or regular menu. The three of us took the vegetarian and weren't disappointed. The prices seemed about right (dare I say borderline inexpensive for Chicago). We decided on tapas and tried almost everything. The food was quite delicately spiced. One could taste everything and no one spice was overpowering. We had 6 tapas between 3 of us and that seemed to be the right amount. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The decor really is quite chic. We will definitely return.
