Lou Mitchell is a locally owned just over a block from Union station in Chicago. Good basi breakfast where you also get a flavor of business types along with local folks and tourist enjoying breakfast. Plus you are treated to a warm donut hole upon entering and a small box of Milk Duds while you dine. I had the Corned beef hash with 4 eggs and excellent sliced potatoes. The hash was not home made and was bit salty but overall the breakfast was filling. My spouse had the Greek omelet that was very good, service was very good despite how busy the place was at 10:30 on a Tuesday morning. Restrooms are located in the basement which could be a challenge to some.

We had a great breakfast at Lou Mitchell's. We had a very mouthy hostess and waitress and they were both a lot of fun to interact with. The food was great and the prices were reasonable.

The best part of Lou's is the staff. Super friendly and helpful. We had a party of 7. They worked hard to fit us into the tiny restaurant space. Service was fast and efficient. They serve donuts while you wait (Good donuts, but not real moist) A bell rings occasionally and everyone gets quiet. They announced a servicewoman was eating with us today (we all clapped), and another announcement that the Cubs had won. Very homey and patriotic. Diner fair with decent prices. Food was fair - I've had better diner food, but coffee was good. You felt like you lived in the neighborhood. Sundays are super busy, they said. We arrived 9:30 Saturday, by the time we left there were 12 people waiting to get in.

I had several hours to kill before catching a train at Union Station in Chicago plus I was getting hungry so I googled restaurants near Union Station, Chicago. Lou Mitchell's came up so I gave it a try. The TripAdvisor reviews warned that this place is very busy. I went around 12:00 noon on a Tuesday and it was indeed busy, but I was seated almost immediately. It is very much an all American diner, which I love. They serve the usual all American diner fare: burgers, fries, milkshakes, etc. I asked my server, who was great, if breakfast was still available. He said "you can have it anytime you want." I was thrilled so I got pancakes and sausage. It was delicious! A word of warning: the portions are huge. I love to eat so this is not a problem for me. The atmosphere was great: very friendly, all American diner vibe. The prices were very reasonable. I would most definitely come here again the next time I am in Chicago.

Great atmosphere, food, people, service, and prices. How many restaurants go out of their way to provide friendly service in dense areas? This impeccable service makes this establishment one of a kind.
