We visited Lou Mitchell's for breakfast in early July. Best decision we made on our trip to Chicago (and there were some good other ones). This place is a classic early 20th century urban diner. The food is awesome and the atmosphere and experience is great from the time you are offered a donut hole upon entering to the time you get the check. I now regret missing this place on earlier trips to Chicago. I will do my best to never again miss this place on a trip there. Plus they have giardiniera omelettes. I'm not sure how much more Chicago I can get than a dish like that for breakfast.
