Lovely ambiance, gorgeous terrace for fine weather, an elegant oasis tucked discreetly away from Michigan Ave. Excellent service. We love the lobster dish and dim sum unlike any other you've had. Each visit has met the high expectations they've set.

“Shanghai Terrace”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

We ordered the Holiday Menu, five courses for $98. It was a mixed bag. The prawns and chicken were extraordinary, crisp, fresh and flavorful. The braised pork rib was also very good, although it was pork tender loin, not rib. No problem. It tasted good. The wagyu beef was not like other wagu I have eaten. It gave the impression that it had been tenderized. It had tendons and was a little difficult to eat. I think that this was the dish that was garnished with Korean kimchi, but without much kick. The center piece of the menu was the seafood and rice wrapped in lotus leaves. This dish is a variation on traditional Chinese zhongzi, which normally is made with sticky rice. Here it was ordinary white rice. The delicate seafood was overcooked and chewy, sacrilegious to the precious abalone. The deserts were very good. The wine was only so so. We ordered a cheap Oregon pinot noir for $80. screw top, sweet, little structure, probably from over-ripened vines, not very refined. To be honest, I have had better homemade wines. I had a headache the next day. The service was very good, a delightful staff, very professional and attentive, a great team. Despite the minuses here, I would return to Shanghai Terrace, but I would order the dinner a la carte, and be more careful with my wine selection. I look forward to returning to Shanghai Terrace and ordering in a way that would allow me to give this place a better rating. This is a serious restaurant.

“Wonderful food, romantic setting”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

For our final day in Chicago I wanted something special for lunch and Shanghai Terrace did not disappoint. The terrace is well laid out, spacious and yet intimate at the same time. All minor details lend themselves to a great ambiance. The Dim Sum was excellent and the lychee cocktails wonderful.

“Best overall Chinese fine dining in Chicago”
Reviewed December 24, 2013

This is Chinese food with high quality ingredients, attentively prepared and served, in every detail. The duck preparation is outstanding, the dumplings excellent-- as are most dishes we have tried there. This is not fast food; it is a total meal experience. Too bad the neighborhood Chinese take out doesn't cut it any more.

for a hotel, not bad. American take on Chinese food which wasn't bad - steamed fish was so so, soups and appetizers (dumplings) were good.
