“Great service, sit inside and outside”

We got this place recommended by our hotel. Don't let the name fool you, they have some great fish on the menu too. Steaks are good. When you order a side dish like vegetables or potato, don't order both for 1 person, you get a lot. Share it or just order one side dish. Steaks are not cheap though.

“The steak is great - but not much else”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

We asked our hotel staff at the Club Quarters' Central Loop for a recommendation for a steak house we could walk to. They told us about the Grillroom and even gave us a card for 15% off for mentioning the hotel. Well I know steak is expensive so we were happy to have that. The steak at the Grillroom did not disappoint. Hubby and I both got the filets and while he likes it well done and I like it med rare, we both were presented with our steaks exactly how we liked it. And they were each tender and juicy and delicious. The problem was with everything else - other than our waiter who was serving his first night but was awesome. No doubt because it was7:30 on a Friday night and there were only about 3 or 4 tables seated in the whole place. Everything was a la carte which maybe all steakhouses do, I don't know. But the sides were about $8 - $9 each. So hubby orders like an $8 baked potatoe - really? A potatoe with nothing done but stuck in the oven is $8 bucks? Granted even a very large potatoe. I had the potatoe leek caserole which was so buttery or oily, I'm not sure which but it was bad. Also, if you wanted a sauce with your steak - I chose Bernaise and he horseradish - they charge $2 each for what amounts to about 2 tablespoons of sauce. My Bernaise was so salty I didn't even use it. So if you want a great steak - go here. But stick with just the au jus, and maybe share a potatoe.

“Lovely evening and a pretty good meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2012

Had dinner with a group of five on a Friday evening. Restaurant was quiet and nowhere near full, which was surprising, given the mostly-reasonable pricing and pretty good food. Very good cocktails and a nice salad and steak.

Atmosphere was nice and dark and quiet enough for good conversation (don't know what it would be like if the place were fuller).

Service was attentive without being overbearing. We stayed quite a while and never felt a pressure to leave -- again, don't know how this would be on a busier evening.

All in all, a quite nice evening.

“Lucky find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

After attending a performance at the Bank of America Theatre we were hungry but didn't want a big meal. We decided to to have appetizers at the Grillroom and chophouse, across the street from the theatre. We ordered a variety of appetizers to share. The calamari was cooked perfectly and was served with cocktail sauce and lemon aioli. We loved the very tender filet sliders served on a soft bun with bleu cheese and balsamic onions. We also enjoyed the comforting four cheese mac and cheese. Unfortunately we all felt the baked goat cheese on puff pastry with tomato confit was a disappointment. The pastry triangles were served on top of a bland tomato confit which made the pastry very soggy. Good selection of wine by the glass but don't expect a strong cocktail. Overall this was a good choice and we will return when in the area.
