Went with mom and sister. Sister had been there two nights before for a company dinner and raved about it. We showed up around 1pm on a Saturday afternoon to be greeted with a brunch menu. Blah. Wanted Mexican food, not brunch. The chips and guacamole were very yummy. Tacos were decent, but they only gave us two small tortillas each. As soon as they set the meal down we asked for two more tortillas each (there was a lot of meat). Unfortunately, the tortillas didn't arrive until we had already finished the first two tacos (and the meat was now getting cold). A real bummer. Margaritas were good. Felt like the waiter was great in the beginning, but then forgot about us. Really wanted to love this place, but didn't.

Be prepared to get to Frontera very early if you want to eat dinner at a reasonable hour. But if you love Mexican food and the world's best margarita it is worth getting there at 5pm.

This is a must do - whenever we have guests in Chicago. But if you tend to over order appetizers (as I do) Frontera can quickly get pricey.

Must order items:
The different ceviches
guacamole (spicy)
And you have to get some main dish in a mole, or another slow cooked sauce.
I could go on but it is worth talking to your server to find out what is special and in season.

We always wanted to try this place but we were disappointed. It very small and loud. So no romantic dinner here. The food was good but not outstanding as some would say. Corkage fee was to expensive.

You will most likely experience a long wait here, but it is worth it. Definitely the best mole and guacamole I have ever had. And the margaritas and specialty mixed drinks are delicious. We waited in the bar for nearly two hours for our table and didn't mind a bit. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in fun colors and art and has a lively, vibrant atmosphere. For Top Chef fans, it's a must-visit location because of Rick Bayless. For fans of Mexican food, another must-visit because Rick Bayless knows what he is doing. Loved the experience and can't wait to go back.

This was my fourth time eating at Topolabampo, and unfortunately it has been a downhill run. My initial experience at this Rich Bayliss creation was incredible, with unique & scintillating flavors of Mexico teasing my taste buds. However, as other chefs copied this pioneer of gourmet Mexican cooking, it seems as if the kitchen stopped experimenting & began resting on its laurels. Now with "Top Chef" fame, Topo seems very taken with itself. Our server was supercilious, arrogant,& preemptory. Rather then listening, he announced. This took the fun away & dining should always be a good time. My mole was excellent, but very expensive & not worth the service "without a smile."
