“Michelin-style food, an experience to remember”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

What prevented me from giving this place a 5th star was the price. The food was top-notch, near perfect. My wife and I ordered the Degustation Menu with the Wine Pairing. With starter drinks, sparkling water, and coffee after dinner, the bill came to $700 including 15% gratuity. There was also a $75 cancellation fee per person as part of the reservation. If you don't feel comfortable paying prices like this for dinner, then this place is not for you.

The Degustation Menu is at $145 per person, plus $98 per person for the Wine Pairing. This menu is a 9-course meal and takes about 2-1/2 to 3 hours to eat. It was outstanding and the wine pairing was spot on with the flavor of each dish. It's hard to name a favorite course because they were all delicious.

I did not find Everest a romantic restaurant--my idea of a romantic restaurant is dim candle-lit rooms with a relaxing atmosphere. This is a place to dress up, splurge, and sample exquisite cuisine. While the view is second to none, not all tables come with a view, and the restaurant is kept quite bright. There are tea candles on the tables, but they are small and due to the brightness of the room, they are hardly noticeable. There's a stuffy feel to the atmosphere.

The service was outstanding and the food even more so.

Back to why I rated this 4 stars. I've been to Michelin-star restaurants all over the world. I've had food as good as and even better than Everest, at nearly half the price. I think the Degustation menu would be better valued at $110 and the wine pairing no more than $50. I understand the pricing of this place limits the clientele to those who can afford such food, but there are much better places to eat at more than half the price.

“Excellent food, service and views”
Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

Although I have now gone here twice for business, I would really like to go for a romantic dinner - the food, service and views create an ambience that is unparalleled

We started out with some salad (after the complimentary amuse) which was very good - however, the highlight was the fresh baked breads - wow - we each had to try more than one (I liked the corn best)

for dinner, my colleagues had the striped bass and I had the duck. We all liked our entrees, but I have to say that the duck was clearly one of he best ever - duck can be very greasy, but mine was not at all, but had all the flavor. Paired with a nice glass of redwing, it was a real joy to eat

Of course we tried dessert (which was started off with some complimentary sorbet) - I had the banana - it was excellent - my dinner guests also enjoyed theirs. But, our hosts were not done and came around the table with an offering of dessert chocolates - we could not resist and enjoyed this very sweet ending

That is it - clearly one of the top meals i have ever had - if you have the chance, do not pass up the opportunity

Thank David M

“The highlight of our holiday.”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

This restaurant aims for the best in everything it does and in our opinion, it provides it. The view is sensational, the service was impeccable and set a standard in my mind for what professionalism means. We had the pre-dinner set menu (included venison) which started with an amuse-bouche of three little tasters which the waiter explained and we relished. It set the standard for the rest of the menu which was imaginative, very special and expertly prepared. I would think eating the full menu here would be a challenge, simply because of its range and richness and we felt the pre-theatre menu was just the right amount in quantity..Come here for a very special experience of the very best!

“Another overrated place (see Alinea)”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Food was bland, though the room is charming. The wine list was pricey and filled with things not ready to drink. Unless you are trying to impress someone not very knowledgeable, don't bother.

“40th Floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

What a beautiful view out the 40th floor windows of the Chicago Stock Exchange! We were guests of a very large party (60+) and ate in the private banquet room. The wine flowed freely, which was nice (thanks to the vendor/sponsor). The food was good as well.
