Chose this restaurant for dinner and we weren't disappointed. Recommended by a 5 star hotel nearby. Very good dining experience. Great atmosphere in dining room and on terrace. Food was tasty and well presented. Service was excellent too. Any steak in a downtown Chicago restaurant is going to be expensive in the evening however we felt that it was worth it; in fact we were pleasantly surprised by the price. $70 each including a good bottle of wine. Highly recommended.

“Very tasty, lovely presentation, great al fresco dining -- but pricey”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

I almost gave Keefer's a "Very Good" rating instead of Excellent, but in the end, the overall dining experience -- and a decision we made to split a large steak (which brought the overall price down a tad) -- made the difference. Nothing is cheap here, although chicken is probably a reasonable price overall. But who would come to Keefer's for chicken anyway?

We started with drinks and wine. You get a decent pour of wine by the glass and some interesting choices as well. The bar drinks were also generous. I ordered an absolutely delicious gazpacho special which looked every bit as good as it tasted. A beautiful presentation! We split a Kansas City bone-in rib-eye (22 ounces) which was just right for splitting, perfectly cooked to order and nicely seasoned. A side dish (substantial portion for two persons) of grilled asparagus sealed the deal. The only down side of this visit was a solo espresso which was such a tiny portion that I think maybe there was two sips worth. Not enough to bring the rating down.

We enjoyed the expansive street side patio on a beautiful Chicago evening, highly recommended if weather permits.

“Classic lunch or dinner place, especially for media professionals”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

It is a bit old school, but a perfect blend of Chicago restaurant. You can come in wearing jeans and a decent shirt, or in your best suit and tie. Good steak and good seafood and very professional staff.

“More excellent food in Chicago”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Was in Chicago for a conference and had been to Keefer's before and really enjoyed it so went back again this trip. Our waitress Emily was outstanding, complete attention to detail and didn't miss a beat. She made great suggestions of things to try, including a chocolate pudding dessert that I never would have ordered on my own. It was awesome, as promised. The filet had a wonderful seasoning, not too much with great flavor that really enhanced the meet. The appetizer was fantastic, small lobster with avocado. Wouldn't change a thing about the night and will certainly be back again.

“Very Solid, But Very Expensive”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

You're easily going to spend 50 to 70 per person. It is not hard to imagine it going to 100 per person. With that said, everything that I've had here is solid. Steaks are prime, which they should be at this price. High end steakhouse, in competition with Morton's, Gibson's, etc... very business oriented. Service is what you would expect at this price level.
