It is really hard for a restaurant to differentiate itself in a city that has an abundance of steakhouse restaurants, but Keefers has managed to do so. From the excellent waitstaff to the management on site, this family owned restaurant delivers on all levels.
We tried two different type of prime rib eye presentations to outstanding dover sole and scallop entrees. The restaurant has many windows and is very classy without being pretentious.
While the food is great enough to warrant return visits, it is the staff that helps to set this place at the top of our Chicago dining list. We can't wait to return.

Keefer's did not disappoint. We thought the service was excellent - very attentive and friendly. My daughter and I split the filet - 9 ounces was perfect for us. They brought it to the table and then plated it on separate plates for us. Great wine selection. My teens felt welcomed and respected. And the food - wow! Expensive but worth it. The four of us split two sides - that was plenty.

A steak house must cook steaks to the proper temperature. Ordered it Medium rare and brought to the table rare. It also takes 10 more minutes to arrive to the table.

When in Chicago don't miss out on this wonderful steakhouse located just north of the river in downtown Chicago. The experience begins with friendly staff members ready to seat you promptly upon your arrival. The wait staff are friendly and eager to serve without the obligatory walk through and asking if everything is alright. They actually pay attention and move to your table when you may need something. The steaks rule supreme here. Tender, juicy, and marbleized to perfection. The side dishes are also not to be skipped. The prices are no higher, or less, than what you would expect to pay at a premier steakhouse, but it's the service and attention that make the dining experience so wonderful here. Whenever in Chicago, give this a try. It will not disappoint.

This is the third time I have ordered the smoked pork chops with cherry BBQ sauce at Keefer's. Best I ever had every time I have it! Big thick cut and the BBQ sauce is to die for. Waitress suggested a great red wine to go with it. It is served with a moist corn cake. If you are in Chicago, go to Harry Caray's for a drink, but go across the street to Keefer's for a great meal. Side note: my husband ordered the special halibut, which he abosolutely claimed was the best he ever had, also. Keefer's has unique and plentiful choices for sides so you are sure to find something you like. All dishes are ala carte and a little pricey for a total dinner for two with one glass of wine between us ($122.00) but the quality makes it worth it. Decor-- warm wood paneling, Ambience: busy and somewhat noisy. Wait staff could have been more attentive. Go for the food!
