Beautiful and classy atmosphere, piano player, and house magician who did some wonderful tricks for my daughter. The food was wonderful as well. It wasn't crowded when we went. Wish I had taken pictures to share.

In line with the other reviews of the excellent food and service. I live nearby and have had my eye on this place for a long time waiting for the right opportunity to give it a try. That opportunity came this weekend when I hosted an out of town visitor who is a world traveler.

I reasoned that if he thought it was good having eaten all over the world, that his experience would balance my review. I received the below note from him today which speaks for itself:

"Dinner at Edgewater Beach Café. What a great way to kick-start my 48-day vacation! Everything in the restaurant was perfect. Thanks for the lovely dinner."

Had the duo of filets and the apple braised duck. Both were spectacular. The shame of it was that there was only one other couple in the place. Spread the word! Great french food for a wonderful price!

This excellent restaurant is in the Edgewater Beach Apartment Building built in 1929 by the architect of the Drake Hotel in Chicago. It is run by a Vietnamese husband and wife couple with their son. The food is classic American/French with some Asian influence and some really incredible dishes which defy any specific ethnic origin, like the red cabbage salad which is awesome! We live in the building and eat here often. The food and service is always superb and the staff is very knowledgable about wines, many selections are reasonably priced. Portions are ample so I suggest ordering everything to share and do a three or four course meal. You won't be disappointed. There is a piano player Friday and Saturday nights as well as for Sunday brunch, the latter being one of the best bargains in the city! If you aren't in the neighborhood the 147 express bus stops right at the door and operates freqently. Get off at the Sheridan/Bryn Mawr stop (it's about a 20 minute ride not during rush hour) and enter from Sheridan Road or treat yourself and enter on Bryn Mawr so you can experience the spectacular lobby of the building. Resrevations are not necessay except on Holidays. Treat yourself to a special experience away from the crowds and "overdone" restaurants in Lincoln Park and the Mag Mile. Don't be put off by the "Cafe" in the name. This is an elegant restaurant!

I love this place! I am a little confused by one of the reviews, however. There is no outdoor patio at this cafe. It is small, intimate, and the food is wonderful. Located in the Edgewater Beach Apartment building. And Fridays are lovely with the added attraction of music. Highly recommended.
