This excellent restaurant is in the Edgewater Beach Apartment Building built in 1929 by the architect of the Drake Hotel in Chicago. It is run by a Vietnamese husband and wife couple with their son. The food is classic American/French with some Asian influence and some really incredible dishes which defy any specific ethnic origin, like the red cabbage salad which is awesome! We live in the building and eat here often. The food and service is always superb and the staff is very knowledgable about wines, many selections are reasonably priced. Portions are ample so I suggest ordering everything to share and do a three or four course meal. You won't be disappointed. There is a piano player Friday and Saturday nights as well as for Sunday brunch, the latter being one of the best bargains in the city! If you aren't in the neighborhood the 147 express bus stops right at the door and operates freqently. Get off at the Sheridan/Bryn Mawr stop (it's about a 20 minute ride not during rush hour) and enter from Sheridan Road or treat yourself and enter on Bryn Mawr so you can experience the spectacular lobby of the building. Resrevations are not necessay except on Holidays. Treat yourself to a special experience away from the crowds and "overdone" restaurants in Lincoln Park and the Mag Mile. Don't be put off by the "Cafe" in the name. This is an elegant restaurant!
