What an amazing array of sweet treats, pastries and cakes. I was lucky enough to have my wedding cake made from here! It was breathtaking! If you an enjoy an eye for detail, and a lunch of the day, you will love, love this place. Our Northwestern staff have had many cakes and treats from here and are always looking for the next excuse to order a cake! All the pastries, scones, bread, cookies, candies are made from scratch. You will not puzzle over an ingredient list that you do not recognize. Everything is painstakingly made from scratch and you can view the kitchen easily at a large window that showcases the pastry chefs working. Yes, its a busy place, but those worthwhile places are. Think of strolling in Europe for a moment. The packed places are the best!!!

The cakes and pastries offered at this bakery are uniformly excellent. Lunches are also very good. The soups, daily kisch and other specials are delicious.

For some reason, the standards of excellence and loving care exhibited by the kitchen and baking area does not extend to the table wait staff.

This is a fanastic bakery. The scones and cupcakes are outstanding. Also ordered a birthday cake and the decoration was fresh flowers. Everything here is so good. They have a cupcake calendar. At the times we have gone you can get yesterday's cupcakes at a discount or also a discount at the end of the day. When you preorder they do ask for a credit card for the purchase.

This European style cafe has a good bakery and serves light lunches. The food is simple but the quality is good, and the baked products are often excellent. This is my go-to place for cakes. The service is so so but gets the job done.

My husband ordered a cake for my birthday...it was to be Red Velvet. it looked great on the outside. When we cut into it at home for my birthday celebration, it turned out to be Carrot Cake. We called the bakery and they could not remake the cake on such short notice. They offered us a store credit of $35. The cake cost $60 and the WOULD NOT REFUND our credit card. Your mistake all the way, and you wont take care of the customer? It's sad how service has all but disappeared in this day and age.

Sadly, Bittersweet also screwed up a cake for our friend's 40th birthday party last April. We ordered Marble and received Chocolate and Strawberry. We were offered $35 credit last time as well, which was used on the birthday cake mentioned above. It sounds like this is their standard practice for cake mistakes.

If you are OK with mystery cakes, then Bittersweet may be for you....but if you would prefer to get what you ordered and PAID FOR, try Sarah's baker downtown instead.
