Every big city by a river has a river walk, but Chicago's is fabulous!
Every bridge has a bridge house to open the bridge up for large vessels. Each bridge house is different in structure.
It's very pleasant to walk along the river & take in the views. There's a Chicago River Museum that's accessed by one of the bridges (can't remember which). There's a lot of different boat tours you can choose from & the water taxi.
Lots of places to sit & relax & people watch. Wear good walking shoes!

I got up every morning and walked at least three miles down and back on the Riverwalk. Beautiful to see all of the architecture of Chicago and about five degrees cooler than being up on the street. A lot less noisy, too.

By the time we got here during our long weekend, my legs hat put on more than a few miles. There are lots of opportunities to sit and rest (people watch), take in the architecture, and grab something to eat.

We wandered along and enjoyed a brief break at one of the eateries to eat and enjoy the very busy river activity.
