“No room safe makes it bad for business travel”
Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

When you travel for business a *must* is a room safe to store your computer when out for dinner, etc. this is an otherwise good hotel but no safe makes it a no go for my future biz travel. Tons of kids in lobby shows its really for families.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent visit. During the summer months, you will see a lot of families staying during the week. Our amenities appeal to leisure and business travelers alike, but Hyatt Place is ranked #1 Select-Service Brand by Business Travel News. We are disappointed that we were unable to meet your needs, and hope we will have another opportunity to earn your loyalty.

Sincerely,

Joshua Schreib

When we first arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the staff and they welcomed us and just kept smiling and answering all our questions. They were so friendly and so helpful and just full of energy. The hotel was great - so clean and fresh and the hotel location is so convenient to everything. Great walking and seeing all the sights. My family consisting of my wife and two teenaged boys were really happy with the experience of the hotel and the customer service by the staff was just phenomenal. The free breakfast was great and with many items and hot/cold items which catered to everyone. Our room was very spacious consisting of two queen sized beds with a sleeper sofa bed. Everyday clean linen and the washroom very clean. We will definitely come back again. Again, the STAFF amazing !!!!!! Great experience at the Hyatt Place/River North. Thank you all !!!!!

So....we chose the Hyatt place because it had the best price for my family and I to stay in River North over the weekend of the Air & Water show, including breakfast, wifi, and a reasonably spacious room.

The hotel is brand new and spotless. Hyatt Place staff were excellent and always greeted us with a smile. Breakfast was very good for a free buffet, although lines got a big long on weekend mornings when everyone slept in.

The room was well laid out, although we used the sofa bed, which we generally left open as a bed, which reduced table/chair space and made it feel more "hotel - y" as we spent our time in the room sitting on beds. We often stay at an Embassy Suites or Residence Inn, and to be honest we missed the space of those types of rooms as well as having a regular fridge & microwave, and silverware to reheat our Chicago deep dish pizza! However, we spent about $75/night less for this room so hey that makes up for a lot.

We were on the 10th floor. I'm a pretty light sleeper, and I did hear the sirens as well as the overflow from the club next door, particularly on the most active Fri-Sat nights. I wouldn't say the club noise would have woken me up, but once awake I could hear the voices/laughter/shouts of the club goers. And one night both my son and I dreamt about fire sirens, ha ha. To be honest, It was one of my noisier hotel experiences, but not enough to make me check out or complain. Probably asking for a higher floor, or maybe just keeping the fan on all night as white noise, would help. Price and location/convenience won made this hotel worthwhile.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I apologize that you found our hotel to be noisy. We are amongst the bustle of the River North neighborhood, which boasts over 150 bars and restaurants and some of the city's finest attractions. Although we are only steps from all the action, we do try to address the noise to the best of our capabilities. Please let us know the next time you will be in the area and we will try to place you in a quiet area of the hotel and offer some amenities to help ease the impact of sound.

I love the Hyatt Place brand, free wifi, free breakfast and spacious rooms, so I was excited to book this brand new spot in Downtown Chicago for 6 nights at a great price.
Pros:
-close to everything downtown and tourist related...easy to walk or catch a cab anywhere from right outside the front door.
-free wifi, free breakfast and big rooms (had two rooms, one at the beginning of the hallway and one at the end, the one at the end was way bigger for whatever reason so try getting an end room if possible)
-self-service laundry available ($2 a washer/ $2 a dryer)
-friendly, helpful, accommodating staff.

Cons:
-Slow elevators and we were only on the 5th floor. Had to take the stairs down on several occasions and on checkout when taking bags down some of us waited at least 20 mins for an elevator.
-Fire station across the street/ street noise at night- this didn't bother us at all ( guess we were too tired to care) but I think people should know
-Crowded breakfast....but hey its free and plentiful so this should be expected.
-Room AC blew directly onto one bed and when turned to higher than 72 blew hot air.
-Housekeeping.....this was the one real downfall that could be controlled. they did not do a good job cleaning out rooms. in one room there was a glass of water left on the table for 3 days....we even started a pot to see how long it would stay. in the other room we left the card on the bed to change the sheets after one of the kids wet the bed and came back to find the sheets with the same big yellow spot on them. had to call down at 11pm for clean sheets. another time the didn't leave any clean towels at all after taking the dirty ones. each day it never looked like the vacuumed the carpet and note that we always make sure o not be those guests who trash rooms and leave them extra dirty each day...usually when we leave for the day ALL there is to do is change the towels and sheets and vacuum...that's it, no hard cleaning and they semi-failed at that.
Despite this, we loved the hotel and would definitely stay again the next time we're in town.

It still smells new! Great location. Near so many good restaurants. Also near the Red line. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast is free, but very busy. Hard to find a place to sit and eat on the weekend. The hotel is near a firehouse, but it didn't interfere with our sleep. We would absolutely stay here again.

Thank you for visiting the Hyatt Place Chicago River North from St. Louis.

We do have a great breakfast that is very popular with our guests. We offer extended seating throughout our gallery, and we also provide trays for our guests who would prefer to eat in the privacy of their guest room. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and found our staff incredibly friendly and helpful. We hope this will be the first of many visits to our hotel and beautiful city!

We will stay here every time we come to Chicago base on this past weekend's stay. Service was top notch! Every staff member went above and beyond to take care of us, and this is not even a full service hotel. Breakfast and coffee were great, and it was better than most breakfasts that are included with hotel stays nowadays. Rooms were pretty and modern, with a sectional sofa. Many great restaurants within walking distance.

I can't think of a finer compliment than earning your loyalty to return to our property. I'm happy to hear that you found our breakfast to be great, but did you know we also have a 24/7 Gallery Menu available after those long days of shopping and sight-seeing? On your return trip you are welcomed to join us for a drink and a bite to eat.

We recently stayed here two nights for a "girls" weekend, we are mature girls! This hotel is brand new, spacious, located in a great place to walk everywhere and just about perfect! The room was immaculate, and had a king bed and corner pull out sofa! It was amazing! The firehouse down the street did not bother us at all. We almost booked at another Hyatt, but this was cheaper AND included a fantastic breakfast! This breakfast was ten times better than most hotel fare! Coffee was out of this world! Staff were helpful and friendly! I must add one negative, I wish that it had a pool or hot tub. Otherwise it was perfect! Highly recommend!

Room Tip: Try to get a higher room and on the opposite side of the street where the firehouse is located for l...

We appreciate the opportunity to host you and the "girls" for a weekend in Chicago, and for sharing your experience.

We understand that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we serve up our a.m. Kitchen Skillet and fresh coffee every morning to help our guests get a healthy and delicious start. Please think of us the next time you are in need of a girl's getaway- it would be our pleasure to have you back.
