“Hard to believe something this good is FREE!”
Reviewed May 19, 2010

Our greeter was great. She was an older woman with a lot of knowledge of Chicago history, architecture and art. We did a walking tour around the loop and then to Millenium Park. She was very patient and accomodating - and even gave us some great shopping tips. The tour lasted for almost five hours (even though it's supposed to be four!). The greeters cannot take tips or gifts, but our greeter was glad to accompany us for dinner to Giordano's. We shared a deep dish cheese pizza - and she said it was one of the best she's tasted. Coming from a local, that meant a lot!

What an awesome service. Every city should have this!

“Ask for Anne Marie!”
Reviewed April 14, 2010

We asked for Irish heritage information, and we had an architectural tour of the downtown area with information on the Irish interspersed. Our train ride out to the Irish areas was anticlimatic, but a good experience since we hadn't used the train yet. Ann Marie provided a few restaurant tips; she lives in Chicago near downtown. We enjoyed our time with her.

“not to miss”
Reviewed December 15, 2009

Our guide was Joe and he was knowledgeable and more than generous with his time. Our tour was close to 4 hours. Joe showed us how to use the Chicago Transit and that was very helpful. We went to different neighborhoods and now we know where the attractions and restaurants are that are in the guidebooks. You can choose a theme and we chose film and architecture. Joe showed us locations where the Batman movies and Public Enemy were filmed. He also took us inside buildings with the most amazing domes. We would not have gone inside the Cultural Center if not for him and you have to see that if no other building. He taught us some history about architecture and the city itself. It is free, you just have to sign up. I tried to tip him, but he wouldn't even take that. I will look this service up in other cities.

“Huzzahs for Chicago Greeter”
Reviewed October 4, 2009

Chicago Greeter gets my highest praise. Our guide, Larry Byrne, was terrific. He first took us on a tour of the Cultural Center, which was the old Chicago central library. Really lovely building. Then, we walked around the Loop for an informal architecture and history tour. The next phase was a pleasant surprise--we took the El to Old Town for an interesting tour of one of Chicago's neighborhoods. Praise to Chicago for this excellent--and free--service for tourists, and thanks again to Larry.

“Great Service”
Reviewed August 19, 2009

My sister and I used Chicago Greeter while in Chicago on August 11, 2009. It was an excellent service, which was easy to find at the Chicago Cultural center. Our greeter took us on a 3 hour walking tour which included Millenium Park, Downtown (Loop) architecture, and a bus trip up to Andersonville. She also helped us to book an architecture boat tour through CAF. Our greeter was very knowledgeable, and had interesting information about the buidlings we were visiting which you wouldn't get from just looking at them. I would reccomend this service to anyone visiting Chicago.
