“Awesome shows.”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

If you can get student tickets, do. The theatre at the Steppenwolf is unrivaled in my opinion and I go to the theatre all the time in New York. It's socially pertinent, well-acted, reasonably priced, and entertaining. What more could you want?

“All-around great theater”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

I have never been disappointed in any aspect of the several theater events I've attended here. The facility is marvelous, the staff great, and the productions are all top-notch.

The neighborhood offers some nice dining and shopping options, both on Halsted and a little farther south grouped around the North and Clybourn "L" stop (Red Line).

“Get over yourself about the language”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

You get to see Jimmy Smits and John Ortiz in a play directed by Anna D. Shipiro, along with other great performances. The language isn't harsh, it is reality in a lot of cultures. This was a powerful, thought provoking play which shouldn't be missed.

“Always top performances”

Went to preview of "Motherf* with a Hat". Strong script, very funny, cutting edge and ultimately moving. Great set. Be aare of lots of profanity, but it works.

“Lives up to its reputation”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

The Motherf**cker with the Hat was a tremendous experience for our group of two couples. Obviously you need to be adults as the language is harsh. Adult subject matter of addiction, betrayal and recovery are all addressed with some mild violence as well.

Having made that disclaimer, the five person ensemble was very appealing and brought a lot to the table. Anna D. Shapiro directed this play as she did on Broadway with Chris Rock. As a local Ensemble Member, Anna was concerned about how Chicago audiences would react to the way this story was depicted. She took part with the Artistic Director in an afterplay discussion which we enjoyed almost as much as the play.

Make the time to visit this legendary theater and see this work of art.
