Stayed three nights. Chose to stay near ORD for the simple reason that hotels in the area are half the price of a downtown hotel. Proximity to Cumberland station is an asset as the blue line will get you downtown in about 30 min. We didn't mind doing the ride to save more than a hundred bucks a night!
Our impressions of the hotel are generally positive. Decent service at check-in. Large rooms, clean. Very nice breakfast (in our case, included in the "bed & breakfast" rate). Nice pool; kids' movies projected on the wall beside the pool; kind of original. Large supermarket (Dominick's) a seven minute walk away.
My main grudge (and the sole reason for my strict 3 star rating) is the outrageous price charged for in-room internet access (around $12 per day). Unacceptable in this day and age, when even basic motels offer in-room internet for free. This practice is antiquated and the competition will grab a lot of your business because of this. There is free internet but in the lobby only. I would think twice about going back. Shape up, Renaissance, you've got an otherwise very decent property...More
