“Fantastic time at B.L.U.E.S.”
Reviewed December 13, 2011

First time to B.L.U.E.S. and we had a wonderful time! Lurrie Bell put on a excellent show in addition to the lovely Mary Lane who was very entertaining and friendly. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Our waitress was on her toes even during the time when the bar was packed. I would most definitely recommend stopping in to see a show but if you want a seat be there by 8:45. Can't wait to go back when I'm in town.

“Small, crowded and fun”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

Lots of fun, but the dance floor is TEENY TINY and had a table on it! We've been here twice and stayed for hours both times now. I love the place and the bands are great. Little Ed and the Imperials ROCK the house with that slide work! I always enjoy a visit to B.L.U.E.S. on Halstead!

“Authentic, Sassy, ... Great”
Reviewed September 6, 2011

Recently reviewed another Chicago music destination and although I liked it, it didn't feel all that authentic. BLUES is on the other end of the spectrum. Almost felt like we were not only the only tourists in the place but maybe the only ones who hadn't walked there and from the immediate neighborhood. It's small. It's cramped. It's tattered and torn. It's REAL. Managed to find four (ripped up) stools along the wall. Saw Big Sarah. To say that she was sassy does her a disservice. She's been there a LONG time...recounting how she started out as one of the youngest performers and now might be the oldest. Everthing about her was first class and authentic Chicago blues. She played with the audience and at times could be quite raunchy. Her band was first class. Wanted a authentic Chicago blues experience and this delivered on every level.

“Great blues music!!”
Reviewed September 1, 2011

We went to listen to Blues, the cover was $10 and the place is small and not polished at all. We like to place that are more authentic and not too crowed with other tourists. We wen to with family who live in Chicago and never been, the show was great!! Lurrey Bell and his band played several sets all about 1 1/2 long, which is very long to perform. The bar in open to 4am we loeft after a few hours. Big Srash was also in the bar and sat in with the band and song a couple of songs. This is the palce to visit, as it's safe and real blues musians playing. Would highly reommend if in Chicago.

“Genuinely amazing gem”
Reviewed July 19, 2011

We live nearby and come every couple of weeks, and can honestly say it has been excellent every single time. Music has been great, every act fantastic. Big time Sarah telling a young guy she'd make him bark like a dog, big ray is great, mike wheeler, jimmy Johnson, Linder Alexander. All brilliant. It's a small hole in the wall place, you can sit a fee yards from the music, get good drinks and for a low cover. Nothing too flash about it which I exactly how it should be. The musicians are all really tight, play well together, and look like they are enjoying themselves, getting the crowd involved. Proper blues joint, at least for me it's the single best thing I do in Chicago. We've taken lots o friends as well, never disappointed any of them.
