“What a great date night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

Came here for an anniversary date night and we had the DIY steakhouse dinner. The staff was so accommodating after a transportation issue that caused us to arrive late. They brought us up to speed on what we missed, helped us out and gave us a delicious bottle of bubbly to enjoy. Would definitely seek them out again when I am visiting. Its a great concept and you do learn a lot.

“Terrific Cooking Class -fun with a group”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

Recently attended an excellent class with friends who were visiting Chicago. We met on a Thursday evening, prepared a Mediterranean meal with Kim and Eric providing step-by-step instruction. The space was nice and comfortably accommodated the 8 participants. All the ingredients were measured and organized "mis en place". We were able to bring and enjoy a bottle of wine while chopping and cooking ... and we sat and enjoyed our results, carrying the left-overs home.

i have attended similar classes elsewhere in town and found this to be the perfect blend of good instruction and relaxing fun. Definitely recommend it. (Parking can be a challenge, so consider the pay lot near the Old Town School).

“Very fun and unique experience - a bit pricey but worth it if you like to cook”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

Attended a group dinner at the Chopping Block not knowing what to expect. The choppping block allows everyone to make dinner with the assistance of chefs who explain the recipe, provide cooking & preperation tips and oversee (& assist with) the food preperation.

After pouring wine, eating a few pre-made appetisers, washing hands and donning cooking aprons; each member picked one of three cooking stations to help make a portion of the evening's meal. All the equipment and food had been prepped in advance by the chefs. The chefs promptly gave an overview of each menu item our group would be preparing and then we started to launch into our duties.

Tonight we made bruchette and fresh salad at one station, homemade pasta and two sauses at another station, proschetto wrapped shrimp and tiramaso at the third station. After approximatly 1 hour of cooking, we all sat down to enjoy the results of our efforts. The chefs helped serve drinks an did all the clean-up.

Given the overall experience, if you like to cook and enjoy learning new cooking techniques, this is the place for you! If you like to be waited upon and have a very high quality meal, I would spend your money elsewhere. Overall, given the tips I learned and the fun I had, I would definitely return.

“entertaining, informative cooking!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

loved it! I have been to many cooking schools and this one is great! It is very clean!
We had a really wonderful meal and learned a lot. There are only 20 people per class, and lots of help so you are never left wondering what to do!
The instructor was very informative, but clear and to the point! It never dragged on. I couldn't believe how fast time flew by!
It is a nice way to meet some new people as well!

“Fun, Educational, Great Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

We had a large group (30) there for a business weekend and we had a ball cooking with the crew at CB. The menu was great, the variety of things to cook ranged from molten chocolate cake (killer) to Korean Beef in Lettuse Cups, to smoked salmon pizzettas and crab cakes.

The wines were OK but the beer selection wasn't great. I'd make sure to have some realy good craft beers a nd wine pairings that go with your menu to make this a real great experience. \

The chefs are fun to work with and the space is good for groups of about 25 or 30.

Thanks, Bob. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at The Chopping Block on TripAdvisor. Cooking parties are great for business events from team building to client entertainment and networking. We also appreciate your comments on our beer list. We are currently offering two selections from a local craft brewery, Two Brothers. If you haven't tried them, they are tasty!
