“Loved it! 2 bedroom suite”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

We stayed with another couple at this hotel for a four day jam packed sight-seeing weekend. The room was large and had a kitchenette and living room area with flat screen t.v.'s in both bedroom's as well as in the living room. We booked the room online and there were no hidden or additional fees. The only complaint I have is that it says "2bedroom suite", however it is not actually a separate 2 bedroom suite with completely separated bedrooms. It does have two separate bathrooms but the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the suite with the living room and kitchenette separating the two. Great room for a great price and fit 4 people very comfortably. Perfect location that was close to everything and the staff was great. The host at the hotel restaurant was rude but that didn't ruin our stay. I would recommend this hotel and definitely stay here a again!

River Hotel is first and foremost - a great value relative to its location in the middle of Chicago's North Michigan Avenue/North State Street areas. It's close to everything. The rooms are definitely Courtyard quality. Serviceable and clean with fair amenities including free bottled water and WiFi. Service staff were friendly on our trip but as a former Chicagoan - I never asked them to find me a place to eat or attraction to see. The 2nd Floor resident's lounge is great as is the health facilities. For the price - it's fabulous along as one calibrates expectations accordingly. As in most large cities, parking is expensive and not efficient! Use the great public transportation systems in the city or walk to a number of great restaurants or attractions. Also, the restaurant in the lobby is quite serviceable for a quick bite.

This Hotel location is great but this is the only good point, It is at most 3 stars , not 4 stars. They provided bad service and using any oportunity to get more money.
This was to say the least the most dissapointing hotel room I have EVER seen. It was so small , no room at all in the tiny bathroom and stand up shower only. The end of the bed was less than 12 incehes from the wall so to get to the tv you had to scoot sideways to go to that side of the room. It is tiny Hotel no facilities, stay away.

Stayed 4 nights at the River Hotel/Club Quarters Combo when in town for trade show. City summer temps were in the hight 90's but rmust say airc conditioning worked excellent in room and I could control how cold. Quiet "dark" cozy corner room 307 = perfect for 1-2. Each floor has free bottled water - cold off the self service tap - great idea. The hotel management helpful in suggestng dinner options and requesting reservations and the on sidewalk dining a pleasant placce for breakfast or happy hour. literally across street from entrance to the river walk and tour boats and steps from Michigan Ave. shopping. Booked through Hotels.com- good savings.

Room Tip: Room 307 a quiet cozy corner room - quick off elevator and perfect for 1-2

We stayed at the River Hotel for one night. I must say the location is excellent or the price we got. Unfortunately we got a room on a smoking floor and the smell in the room was unbearable, even for a smoker....we asked for a room change and they told us the hotel was totally booked and that they had even given us a larger room for the price of a small room (the room was very big). Once we went to bed....even the sheets and comforter had a very strong cigarrette stink....gave the impression linen was not even fresh. This is no exaggeration, the cigarette smell was really, really strong. Too bad for a nice room in a great location!
Two slow elevators made coming up and down REALLY slow...

Room Tip: Ask and insist on a NON SMOKING room!

Stayed at the River Hotel Thursday night for a quick two trip to enjoy some Chicago fun with the wife. This is a great little boutique hotel on the Chicago River, just a block off Michigan Ave.

Clean, modern decor room - all interior was pretty new with "step up" quality. Shower only, but I like not having to step into a bathtub. Pretty decent room size, too.

Fantastic access for the price, right off the Magnificant Mile, and only a couple short blocks from the El. Surrounded by other pricier places wanting your money.

Nice touches - elevator only allowed access to the floors with your room key; filtered water dispenser on every floor with new bottles for you to fill and go, great for us summer tourists.

Front desk personnel very pleasant and helpful. During checkout, manager directed me to self-checkout machine, and guided me through entire process. Not necessarily more efficient, but showed their willingness to make the process easy.

Price was incredible. $112 ($130 with taxes) through Hotwire, for a summer night right in the heart of the action. Past stay at similar time cost $150 + taxes at a tiny, tiny Red Roof Inn off Michigan Ave. Or you go you big and drop a few hundred at the name hotels.

We just recently got back from staying 4 nights in this hotel and found the experience to be very good. Sure the rooms are a little one the small side but we found it to be very adequate for what we needed. There was room for all of our luggage and toiletries, and never felt cramped. The location of the hotel to Wabash and Michigan Ave was excellent and we had no trouble getting a cab to take us where we needed. Also right at the corner was an excellent cafe that we would go to for a quick and relatively cheap breakfast. I say if your looking for a well priced hotel downtown close to the action give this place a look.
