“Can't beat the location!”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

I lived in Chicago for many years and was back to visit family and to see a show at The Vic, which is just around the corner. Love the proximity of the hotel to the El, however if you are a light sleeper you may want to ask for a room that doesn't face the tracks. The train noise was not a problem but the announcements are loud. It was like music to my ears and didn't disturb my sleep (or that of the friend with whom I shared the room) but is something to be aware of. Our room was large and the bathroom was good-sized. Agree with the comments on the decor (dated) and also that it's part of the charm. Front desk staff were angels with my direction-impaired friend and patiently helped her to get to the parking garage. Breakfast is definitely Continental but included hard boiled eggs so we were able to get some protein. I love this part of Chicago and would definitely stay here again next time I need to be in the area.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I want to give enough facts about our stay that will help other travelers enjoy their stay at this hotel as well. This hotel has no distinguishing features that make it easy to find. There is a door on Belmont and a small sign with the hotel name. No awning or driveway to aid the traveler. The best way to check into this hotel is to park across the street at the curb and put money into the parking box. Take your bags with you into the hotel and check in. Then take your bags to your room. The front desk will give you one parking ticket to use for your stay. The actual parking garage associated with the hotel is a little more than 2 blocks away. If you are going to use your car during the day/night, do not go to the parking garage as it costs $23 a day to park there. You can't go in and out without paying. We took our car there when we were done with our day activities and then walked the rest of the evening. The ticket the hotel gives you will be charged to your account at the end of your stay and it will allow you to leave the parking garage with no problem. To load your bags into your vehicle when you leave, you will either have to wheel them to the parking garage like we did, or go get the car and repeat the same process but in reverse of when you checked in. It wasn't an issue to wheel the suitcases up the street as we only had two, however, we got some funny looks.
The room was quaint. The floors sloped but the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the amenities in the bathroom included shower gel, shampoo, conditioner dispensers in the shower, and soap and lotion dispensers by the sink. There is a small shelf in the bathroom that can be used for toothbrushes, makeup, etc. There is no other counter space around the sink. The blow dryer is in a bag hanging on the hook on the back of the bathroom door. There is a fridge in the bedroom that is full of items you can purchase. There is another fridge in the closet/armoire where you can store your own drinks or leftovers. There is a table-top ironing board and iron that worked just fine. The windows are thin and you can hear everything outside including the train which is approximately 50 yards from the hotel. It did not bother us at night. The air conditioner worked fine. The hotel serves fresh cookies in the evening and there is a nice gathering area on the main floor. This is also where they serve a small breakfast in the morning with typical continental breakfast items. Lemon water in a pitcher is available all day. The elevator is scary small. The maximum number at any time is 3. If you have a lot of luggage it could be tricky.
This hotel is located 6 blocks away from Wrigley Field which was our purpose for choosing the hotel. We walked to the game and it was nice. We took a wrong turn coming back from the game and it was a little dicey walking by ourselves but we had no problems and nobody bothered us.
There is a Walgreens within walking distance from the hotel.
We ate dinner at a place around the corner from the hotel called Leona's and it was amazing. I had the petite chopped salad and it was so good. My husband had the Black Angus Pot Roast sandwich with a side of Mac & Cheese which he said was the best he has ever had. The sandwich was excellent as I had a bite. We also ordered a small Italian Meats pizza for a taste and a snack the next day. I liked it better the next day cold but it could be that I was too full to really enjoy the tiny slice I had the night we ordered it. The waitress was attentive and refilled our drinks often.
We stayed one night total in this hotel and the experience was fun. I would stay there again should we go back again.

Room Tip: We booked a room with one queen bed. On the same floor they have mini suites but for our purposes t...

We flew in to Chicago for a baseball game at Wrigley Field and selected the City Suites because it is just a short walk from the hotel. It is also right on the Red Line so it's easy to get to from Midway. You don't need a car but the hotel offers parking for an additional $22.50/night with unlimited in and out. The hotel itself is small and friendly and the rooms are older but very clean and comfortable. A continental breakfast is served in a cozy area on the main floor and the pastries are very good. Later in the day a plate of cookies appeared in this area and were very welcome. The staff was friendly and helpful, answering all of our questions. Some people may have a problem with the noise of the Elevated but we appreciated the convenience of having it a half block away and figured the noise goes with the territory. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: If the Elevated noise bothers you, ask for a room as far away as possible. Ours was as close as pos...

Great little hotel for a trip to Wrigley. Within walking distance to the game. Nice selection of restaurants and bars within a few blocks. Décor is a bit dated, but it's part of the charm. Great little getaway spot.

We stayed at the City Suites for 3 nights in April. It is about 6 blocks from our daughter's home, so that worked well for us. The room was clean and the bathroom was clean. Some nice bath products were provided. The housekeeping service was great and everyone on the staff was friendly.

The brunch was very good: a selection of hot and cold items with plenty of coffee and juices. The hotel is close to lots of bars, restaurants and shops. We also recommend Ann Sather for a fantastic breakfast.

There was a problem with our bill when we checked out, but it was corrected.

The two young men who were at the front desk were great and made our stay perfect. We will definitely return to the City Suites.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on "the quiet side" of the hotel if you are a light sleeper.

We recently stayed at City Suites for a long weekend and I would definitely stay there again. The building is older but it is maintained nicely and was very clean. The rooms were pretty small but very clean and extremely comfortable. If your room faces the train there is a lot of noise but once the window AC unit is turned on it drowns out all of the noise. The location was perfect for us right in the heart of Boys Town conveniently located to lots of restaurants and all of the bars that we were interested in going too and right next to the train which was wonderful. The breakfast was pretty basic but perfect for something quick if you are in a hurry.

Ideal if you are attending a game at Wrigley. It's one stop away. The rooms were clean and a decent sized (It's smaller than an average suite but larger than a typical room). A good mix of cuisines nearby. It's about 20 minutes from downtown on the El. The only slight complaint is you can definitely hear the El.
