“Great hotel”
Reviewed April 11, 2008

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Very well kept and quiet. After recent renovation everything seemed new. Service was good. Parking is expensive but valet service was very prompt. Breakfast was typical buffet. Be advised that the pool is quite small and overun with kids. Not a good pool for an adult to enjoy.
It would be great if they had "adults only" pool times. (Like before 9am and after 10pm) \
I would definately stay here again.

My 5 daughters and myself stayed at this hotel over Easter break. The location is great. Rooms were clean, view was awesome, staff friendly, breakfast was very good and the cocktail hour in the evening was wonderful. We would definately stay again and the price was right! We shopped the entire time so location was very important as we walked everywhere.

This hotel stay combined the price of a high end luxury property with the haphazard service of a cut-rate hotel. We booked it to get more room and the easy flexible breakfast for kids. We had a lot of troublesome problems right from the start. Our phone didn't work. The sink in our bedroom only ran hot (actually plumbed so hot fed both lines).

The reception desk gave us completely incorrect address info for a resturant resulting in a 45 min wild goose chase with kids in tow. When I told them it was wrong, they defensively said "but that's all we have in the system".

The property has laundry, but the both dryers on both floors were out of service - and had been for weeks. They were supposed to be fixed the second day we arrived, but it never happend.

The place looked generally like there was no attention to detail. Times on pool and fitness center for example didn't match between the guest room book and the signs on the pool door, they were out of date.

The pool is small and perpetually crowded with parents and small kids. it's fine if you have your own kids in tow but if you are expecting to get some laps in, no dice - even as late as 10 or 11pm.

I would say the hotel staff was friendly and did respond to our requests - it just seemed like we had to request a lot for what was a $420 per night stay.

My mom and I went to Chicago for a long weekend and this Embassy Suites met our needs - clean, nice location and safe. However, the free breakfast was a nightmare - extremely long lines, completely understaffed, and never enough food/utensils/plates/cups for those in line. After the first two days of the "stress-filled" breakfast experience, we decided to walk across the street to the Dominicks grocery store (similar to Whole Foods) and grab a muffin and sit in Starbucks to enjoy a quiet, peaceful meal. The afternoon "Manager's Reception" wasn't much better - the drinks were fine but the appetizers amounted to "bar food" - pretzels, tortilla chips, salsa and peanuts. On the second night of our stay, they ran out of peanuts and pretzels and when we asked the staff for more, they shrugged their shoulders and said "we don't have anymore." I believe this property was completely unprepared for the influx of Spring Break vacationers and families.

We booked this hotel as part of our family spring break as did many others as it was filled with families on spring break. The primary reasons we picked the hotel were location and amenities. Embassy Suites almost always have included a full breakfast, evening reception, a decent pool and rooms. It was a very good stay and I have put the highlights in a few categories.

Good – room layout was good, we had a corner suite with a view of Lake Michigan, fridge, microwave, flat screen TV in bedroom, clean, comfortable bed, plenty of space for the family to spread out, the breakfast food was very good and the drinks at the reception were also good (especially considering it is an “included” amenity), check-in was easy and the staff was friendly and helpful

Needs Improvement – breakfast planning – with the large family crowd, some items ran out before the end of breakfast each day, one night the reception had a “noodle” type dish, but mostly the same chips/salsa and bar mix – I have seen a much better variety of snacks at other ES properties, housekeeping – one day we came back after 6pm and the room was not serviced, a call to the front desk had it fixed while we were at dinner – also they did not observe the if it is on the floor please change it policy, no Disney Channel (kids only gripe)

Location – ok walking distance to subway, easy walking distance to Navy Pier, Michigan Ave,

Tips – if you do drive avoid the hotel garage, we parked at the Navy Pier (a few blocks walk) for less than half the price per day – especially since we did not use our car again till we left

Overall a very good stay and what I expect from an ES property. We would probably stay here again next time in Chicago as a family.

We've stayed at 2 Embassy Suites in 2 different cities. I think both have been over-priced for the level of quality.

The location of this hotel is excellent and very convenient for tourists and business travelers.

The complimentary breakfast was simply satisfactory. The free cocktail hour was nice. However, neither are enough to make up for the over-priced rates. There are nicer hotels available in Embassy's price range.

One thing I've noticed at both Embassy Suites is that their electronic door locks are complete pieces of s. We've had tons of trouble with them at both Embassy Suite Hotels that we visited. We've never had any such trouble at any other hotel ever. It's a bit frustrating to have to put your key in 10-20 times just to get your door to open, every time you come or go...

Probably won't stay at Embassy Suites ever again.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Lakefront the weekend of March 8th. It turned out to be a wonderful location and was within easy walking distance to Navy Pier and Michigan Avenue. There is also a trolley stop right on the corner which would be especially nice in the Summer months as the trolley is free and goes to all the major attractions. The hotel was nice, but it is in need of a renovation as the chairs in the room's sitting area were threadbare and faded. It did appear as though they might be in the middle of remodeling some of the rooms. Our only complaint was the long lines for breakfast and the evening reception. It was difficult to locate a table and we had to wait several minutes holding our food before a table cleared out. We can't complain too much though considering the hot breakfast was included as was the alcohol at the evening reception.
We look forward to coming back.
