“Perfect Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2011

My 75 year old mother and I took my daughter to Chicago for her 18th birthday and we stayed at the ESH-Lakefront. Perfect location!

Taxi rides to most places were $6
Navy pier 1-1/2 blocks away to the east
Michigan Avenue 2 blocks to the west
Grocery store across street w/deli, soup bar and wine/beer
Walgreens around corner
Hop On-Hop Off trolley #7 stop across street
1 block north of Chicago River
Breakfast cook-to-order and buffet (get there early though)
Complimentary computers in lobby with printers to use (free) - $15 per day if you use your own
Wonderful views especially from the elevator
Bar in lounge/lobby area with large seating area
Sleeps 6 comfortably (separate bedroom)
Nice neighborhood
2 closets/plenty of drawer space for families

The sofa bed had not been changed from last stay (we assumed), but the staff was accommodating and changed it. The front desk and staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful. Our flight didn't leave until 8:30 pm and we were able to leave our luggage there to finish our adventure in the city. The valets and bellhops were extremely nice and helpful.

From O'Hara airport, take the Blue eL to Lake/Clark terminal, take a taxi ($5.00) to the hotel. The train ride takes about 30-40 minutes and cost $2.25 each. We want to come back and this will be our choice hotel.

We arrived at the hotel after experiencing the shock of my husband having his wallet stolen while we were on the subway from the airport to the hotel. The male concierge was most unhelpful, but Melissa Hinds at the front desk came to our rescue - found the phone number of the police so that we could report the theft and arranged for us to use the computers immediately so that we could report the loss of our credit cards. She even took off the charges for the 800 numbers that we used from our room. Thank you again Melissa - your friendly smile and assistance convinced us that Chicago is the friendly city! The hotel is very clean and comfortable, well situated for most attractions and within walking distance of Michigan avenue. We will definitely return!

No cheery welcome at check in. I requested room close to elevator because of walking difficulty, received room furthest from elevator. Breakfast cold. Wireless internet extremely poor, couldn't use in bedroom, in living area usually just 1 or 2 bars, frequent disconnect. Wrote my name in dust on tv cabinet in bedroom. First time ever where we rec'd partial bottles of toiletries, odd way to control costs, went out and bought our own. Hole in bathroom door out of place for a "nice" hotel. Relaxing in the tub I noticed the absolute worst, dried urine on the base of the toilet! I understand this was a very busy weekend but there is no excuse for the condition of this room. If they don't have adequate staff to maintain a room they shouldn't sell it. This is the first time we have ever had a complaint at a Hilton brand hotel.

The hotel is located just north of the river near the NBC Tower, very walkable to attractions and shopping. Having Dominick's Grocery Store (Safeway) across the street is a luxury. Rooms were clean and comfortable, although furniture could use some modernizing.

Manager's Reception included free drinks... and trail mix. Drinks were served by very courteous staff. Breakfast was crowded but good quality, just don't plan on getting a hot breakfast without a few minutes' time.

Only four elevators but i never had to wait. I enjoyed my stay.

My friend and I had a wonderful experience at the Embassy Suites, Lakefront, Chicago. We are two older women and we felt very safe staying there. The rooms were clean and comfortable and very quiet. We really enjoyed the full, cooked to order breakfast each morning and the Manager's Reception each evening. The hotel is located within an easy walk to public transportation and the Navy Pier.

The best part was our Concierge, Doris Vann-Evans. She was enthusiastic, friendly and very well informed about what we wanted to do, places to go and how to get there without spending a fortune. We really appreciated the time she spent helping us.

Room Tip: Our room faced west and it was quiet. Slept through a huge windstorm!

Very clean. Good location near Navy Pier. Nice manager's reception in evening. Crowed breakfast w/ long lines after 9:00.

Dear Valued Guest -

Thank you kindly for your posting on TripAdvisor. We truly appreciate your stay with us and value your business. I am delighted that you liked the location of the hotel and found the hotel to be very clean and nice.

Our complimentary and fully cooked-to-order breakfast is very popular and indeed, it can get very crowded after 9:00 am. We always encourage our guests to come and enjoy the breakfast prior to 9:00 am if they have early morning appointments. We also try very hard to have the appropriate staffing levels at this venue to serve the customers properly and this remains our daily focus.

Thank you again for your positive comments and we enjoyed serving you.

Kind regards,

Syed E. Hasan
