This hotel is nice enough, but the bathrooms smell like a musty locker room. My business associate's bathroom smelled exactly the same as mine, so I'm convinced it's a hotel wide problem. The layout is good and there's plenty of room. The beds are comfortable and clean. The thermosat takes forever to cool the room off, and this was after midnight. Also, I asked to cancel this room because the Chicago Marathon was going on and streets around the hotel were closed. They said sorry, so their customer service in my book was below average. If you have a car and park it in the garage you have to take three separate elevators to get to your room, bad news if you've got kids and luggage. No help was around to get my luggage or for valet, so stay at your own risk.

I've had BAD BAD BAD experiences with Embassy Suites in the past, so it was with major trepidation that I booked this hotel while in Chicago for a physicians' conference. My experience here totally changed my mind about ES.

We arrived in the middle of the heat wave to cordial bellmen and wonderful front desk folks. Since we were staying 8 days, we figured we'd ask for a corner room on an upper floor for a view & see if they'd comply. (We booked through a special convention service for approx. $200 per night - not especially cheap, but decent given what was going on during the time we were there.)The convention was soon to start and the Chicago Marathon was the next weekend; they were quite full, but willingly accomodated us. Our windows looked out on the Wrigley & Tribune buildings along with partial lake and river views.

Our room was clean and comfortable - the standard ES with a sitting room, fold-out sleeper bed, small kitchenette with mini-frig, & comfortable king bed. Because we had a corner room, I think we had a bit more space than some of our friends who had standard hall rooms.

Complimentary hot breakfast was very good = just quite crowded unless you went very early. The swimming pool was small for the size of the hotel, but we used it every day with our 2 kids and there were never more than 6 people including us in it, so it was fine.

Overall pluses: FABULOUS LOCATION! Less than 2 blocks from the river, a couple blocks from Navy Pier, 2 blocks from Michigan Avenue, walking distance to Millenium Park. Nice staff - went out of their way to be helpful. Also - one of the only hotels that we've stayed in that allowed kids in the hot tub; a definite plus for our girls.

Areas that were just ok: Rooms could use a bit more lighting - it tended to be rather dark. Water pressure in the shower was really low (we were on the 12th floor). Also, for the price of the rooms, one would expect internet to be included in the cost - it was an additional charge. However, there is a business center with 3 computers that you can use for free.

Overall, I'd stay there again in a moment - especially with our kids ages 3 and 6. It's very family friendly and our experience was great.

PS - If you're there during the marathon, the route goes right by the hotel and you can watch the people run below you out your window. The kids loved it.

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend. What a great location. Within walking distance of navy Pier, Fox & Obel's grocery, many restuarants. There is even a PJ Clarkes on the premises. The lines for the free breakfast were there, but moved very quickly and the food was great. You can even skip the line if you are not interested in the omelet station. The free drinks at night were nice too. I had a glass of red wine and just took it back to my room. The room - the beds and pillows are wonderful! I would love to have them at home. Our room was spotless. Not the fanciest room of all time, but very clean and spacious. Would definitely stay there again, and plan on it!!

We stayed here over Labor Day wknd and had a great time! Arrived early (11am) and had planned on asking for a place to store luggage until room was ready. To our delight, they told us that we could check in already! Our room was nice, 14th floor and had a HUGE corner suite with a beautiful view of the River. Breakfast was really nice. They had hot food buffet, cold cereal, assorted donuts/bagels, and a cook-to-order omlette area as well. They do have a happy hour with free drinks and appetizers, but we weren't around for it. There is a Walgreens around the corner where we would get bottled water every morning. The location was great...walking distance to everything..Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, John Hancock Bldg, etc. There is a stop for the free trolly just a few steps away from the hotel. We will definitly be back.
