Disappointed

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 20, 2019
The hotel lobby and bar area are very cool, swanky, chic and exciting. Following that, the hotel elevators, hallways and rooms have little to be excited about. My wife and I were looking forward to a weekend away and chose the W based on location, price and brand name. For a Marriott, the W City Center is quite disappointing. The rooms are outdated and felt more like an old college dorm than a Marriott brand hotel. Unfortunately, the bed was not comfortable and neither of us slept well during our stay. I very much wish I could provide a better review of our stay because I have always trusted Marriott. After this stay, we will no longer be choosing the W for future trips and will instead opt for other brands.

Thank you for leaving feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I'm disappointed to hear that your stay was anything less than absolutely fab. At W, we're constantly in pursuit of the now/next and looking for ways to improve our facilities, guestrooms, and public spaces. The current design narrative of our guestrooms and public spaces speak to the minimalist lifestyle that has become more popular in recent years, while paying homage to our property and neighborhood's storied past, with its vintage touches and accents. I'm sorry your guestroom's setup did not fit your taste and apologize for any discomfort felt. I hope that on your next Chicagoland getaway you'd allow us to make a better impression. We do have various different room types and, on our uniquely structured property, no two guestrooms are the same, each room differs from others. If your travels do, indeed, lead you back in our direction in the near future, feel free to reach out to me, the property's W Insider. I'll do my very best to get you into a guestroom that better suits your style.

Fantastic hotel. Has a great atmosphere. Bed was great and the entire stay was outstanding from check in to check out. I know it's silly but i fell in love with their Bliss products. I was hoping to buy the face wash, however Bliss informed me that formula at W is no longer in production. Which is a bummer so if W wants to send me some I would really love it! <3

Room tip: Ask for the coffee maker in your room its complimentary but isn't already in the room.

This hotel has a great staff. They are friendly and helpful. And the bar area is very impressive. The hotel has a good location in the Loop.

Unfortunately the rooms were designed for looks and not function. The biggest problem is the lighting. Difficult to put on make up in a bathroom with dim lighting. (No task lighting.) Lighting in the bedroom area is a problem too. The bathroom sink is small with a tall faucet in the way which makes it impossible to wash your face without splashing all over the vanity. No sink stopper, a problem for contact lens wearers. There are only a couple of small draws in the desk, so no place to put folded clothes. Also, they store the treats (which are available for "convenience" & a fee) in open slots above the desk. Looks sloppy and if traveling with children it would be a constant temptation.

The inspirational sign on the wall? (Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.) I say: Whatever. Marriott you need to recreate these rooms.

Thanks for leaving feedback regarding your recent stay. While I thank you for the kind words for our on-property staff, I'm disappointed to hear that your stay was anything less than perfect. We appreciate your feedback regarding our guestroom setup. having been built in the late 1920s, our guestrooms feature many of the vintage designs of that era mixed with a minimal, modern touch. This is why you'd find the vintage, pedestal sinks and absence of dresser drawers. I'm sorry this setup did not suit your travel needs and apologize for any discomfort met. We do have many different room types, featuring various different guestroom setups and many of them offering tons of natural light to help illuminate the space. I hope that on your next Chicagoland getaway you allow us the opportunity to leave a better impression. If your travels do lead you in our direction in the near future, feel free to reach out to me, the property's W Insider, directly. I'll gladly work with you to get you into a room type more suitable to your taste and do my best to ensure a more memorable stay.

I recently stayed two nights at this hotel. It is considered a very chic type of place. There was a nice quote on a sign in my room. The room overall was large. The lighting was not ideal. My tv did not work and it took them over a day to get to it. More disturbing was after a restless night, I awoke and noticed a old blood stain under the mattress pad.

Thank you for leaving feedback regarding your recent stay with us. Our guest feedback is important as often times it may pinpoint an area of needed focus and attention. At W, we do strive to uphold the highest level of service and to hear we have fallen short of that goal in any aspect is something we take very seriously. Here at W City Center, it is our goal to provide an exceptional guest experience. This guest experience includes the cleanliness and overall upkeep of our guestrooms and common areas. I truly apologize for failing to meet that standard during your stay with us. I have alerted our Style Department leaders to your finding and they are working to locate and rectify this issue. I hope that you'd allow us to make a better impression on your next downtown Chicago visit. If you do find yourself traveling our way in the near future, please reach out to me, the pr.perty's W insider, directly. I promise to do my best to make your next stay more memorable.

Stayed here in July while on business travel. The hotel is very eclectic. The huge bar was the first impression I got when I entered. A little lost, small, and barely recognizable is the reception area to the left of the bar. Let me start by saying that, while this hotel does not appeal to my personal taste, it is nice and certainly appeals to other guests. The staff here however, are superb. Everyone is extremely friendly, professional and efficient. Shout out to Merica...she assisted me with a room change and she is an absolute gem! When I had a slight debacle with my room, the front desk staff promptly provided a room that was more suitable and did so with a smile. What great customer service. I gave 4 overall stars only because (as mentioned) this hotel did not appeal to me personally in its setup, layout or decor. But if you like a hotel with a "boutique" feel and you expect excellent 7-star customer service, you will absolutely adore this property. The rooms tend to be a bit small, so I recommend booking an upgraded room. Also ensure that you are not on a low floor above the city train that goes by every 4 minutes. Other than that...this hotel is a nice property with a flair for the unusual. I would stay here again.

My colleagues and I come to Chicago for NEOCON every year. Our room was much much smaller than expected. No chair or sofa area- just two beds. I had specifically asked for two queen beds and even called and waited on the phone for 20 minutes to talk to someone just to confirm they are queens. However, when we got there they were double- you could even tell by the queen sized frame that the mattresses were much smaller. We asked for an upgrade to a room with queen sized beds but they "assured us those were queens". I wish i had photos just to show how much of a lie that was. They didn't have a cot so instead we got an air mattress for the floor to serve for the extra room... I couldn't believe for the amount we spent we had one of the girls sleeping on the floor... We had to request a microwave to the room because there was nothing. Overall so disappointed. We come to Chicago every year and we will never stay at the W Chicago City Center again.

Thanks for leaving feedback regarding your recent stay. I'm disappointed to hear that your stay was anything less than perfect and apologize that we couldn't accommodate you in a fashion more to your liking. Unfortunately, due to fire code restrictions, we are unable to offer full-size rollaway cots in our double-bed guestrooms, which is why you were offered the option of the air mattress. I apologize that this option was unsuitable to your comfort. On your next trip to downtown Chicago feel free to reach out to me, the property's W Insider, prior to your arrival and I'll do my very best to ensure a more memorable stay.
