My wife and I come to Chicago a couple of times a year for business. We absolutely love Chicago (non winter) ! After a recent stay at a W in L.A. (Westwood) and having a great experience, we decided to stay at The W in Chicago.
We totally get that it’s a beautiful lobby and meeting space. Architecture is unique and bar area has that W feel. However, we found the rooms to be similar to a roadside motel and not worth the 35,000 Bonvoy points per night. Perhaps 12,500 tops.
Upon arrival in the room, we were shocked at the small size of the room. Tiny. But that can be expected from an older building in a city like Chicago. We have stayed in tiny rooms before in NYC hotels, so we get it. BUT, this room looked outdated, old dinky window shades, no decor, paint chipping, uncomfortable bed with a weird mattress cover, a work space / desk that if you are sharing a room, the other person can’t get by you without stepping on the bed, no views, and a tiny tiny bathroom with a shower you have to squeeze into and have to put the water on once you are in there and shut the door so you get hit with a blast of cold water before it warms up. Oh, and there were these little nats flying around in the bathroom. I must have killed over 20 of them over the 3 night stay. At the end of the day, we just needed a place to sleep and do a few conference calls in the AM before heading to meetings and other activities., but simply not worth the money / points in our opinion.
The staff was As responsive as we could ask and I don’t blame them. The hotel was full so no rooms available for us to move to and the other hotels in the area were all booked up so we couldn’t leave. We have loved the Westin, Marriott, Hyatt and even JW in Chicago. Some of them have HUGE rooms
W Just was not up to our value for 35,000 points Rather use that towards gorgeous resorts in the Bonvoy family.
