“Quirky but elegant boutique hotel”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

I stayed at this hotel for a business trip and would not normally pay the higher price, but this hotel has it all! It is located conveniently off the Orange Line Wells/Quincy stop. There are many shops/restaurants nearby, and it is within walking distance to Michigan Avenue. The decor is fantastic, the rooms are some of the largest in Chicago, and the amenities are amazing. I actually had a street view room and was surprised how quiet it was. The hotel lobby/bar gets very loud at night, but once you are in your room, it is peace and quiet. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you have the extra budget. It is worth the experience.

I don't think I've stayed in a more poorly designed hotel room. You can see the toilet from the bed, the door to the bathroom is so loud that it wakes up anyone who's still asleep, the lights are confusing. I'm confident it was some other hotel that the W bought and re-faced.

The water pressure was good (and hot water came fast, which is nice). We had a small window looking into the interior of the building, and because we were on a corner we could look into the room next door.

Room complaints aside, the staff was all very helpful. Quick to bring up a missing item, helpful on the phone, valet and bellhop were nice. We took advantage of the Acura MDX free ride to get to our dinner, which was handy - driver was super friendly and had good advice for where to eat the next day before we flew home. (We tipped him, so it wasn't much cheaper than a cab, but still a nicer ride. :)

Be aware that this hotel is in the middle of the business district, so if you stay there on a weekend a LOT of nearby restaurants/cafes will be closed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out on the exterior of the building, not the interior.

I love Chicago! The location of the W is great, 1/2 block to the train, buses, easy to get a cab, walgreens, starbucks , au bon pain, etc.. large garage just around the corner if you have a car; also FYI it is directly across from the JW Marriott.
Everyone at the W was so friendly and accommodating. Eden the concierge was very helpful and went out of her way to pick up tix for us after she got off work! Thanks again Eden!!
Our first room was beautiful but way too small, esp. the closet. We phoned down and after a short while they were able to accommodate us with a larger room that met our needs perfectly.

Room Tip: Rooms are small and closets are even smaller. If there is more than one of you and you need closet s...

The W hotel was great, but the service from TK Karadzovski was even better. She made 2 great recommendations for dining; Kenzie Street Steakhouse and Roka, and was able to secure reservations during a very busy time in Chicago. Bot restaurants were outstanding, from both a food quality and service perspective.

Thank you to TK at the W Hotel in Chicago for providing exemplary service during our weekend stay. From directions to places to dine, TK was right on the money. Location was perfect (i.e., a Starbucks nearby). My daughter and I had a fantastice time and we will be back.
