“Cramped but cool--Nice option in downtown Chitown”
Reviewed September 1, 2011

I stayed at the W for a one-night business trip and really enjoyed it, though it's hardly a formal, business hotel. The W is great if you're young or want a cool hotel in downtown Chicago. The location is really fantastic, and the staff was incredibly nice.

The lobby of the W has a hip, Euro vibe. It hardly feels like a hotel lobby. At times it feels like it's trying a bit too hard--the elevators are dark and it's hard to see the floor numbers--and the rooms come with life-affirming posters on the walls. But I think the W is an experience--something very different from the run-of-the-mill hotels out there, and for that I say kudos!

Be aware that the rooms are extremely small. I see some of the pictures posted here, but don't be fooled! The "suites" may be big, but the regular, one-bed rooms are tiny. It feels a bit like Manhattan in the rooms. Perfectly fine for 1 or 2 people though, and it's kinda cozy. Everything was impeccably clean.

Lastly, the breakfast downstairs in the morning was awesome. I remember the coffee being really good.

Great weekend at the W City Center in Chicago - Laurelin Hefter and the rest of the team at the concierge desk recommended a lakefront beach, shopping area and some breakfast options, all of which we loved in addition to architecture and sightseeing tours and more. We will be back!

I am Starwood Platinum member, and have stayed at most W hotels in the country. I would love to know why Starwood allows this hotel property to be named a W. It hurts the brand. It hurt my head for a day and half. Decor terrible. Rooms small. Doors hollow. Commodes explode. Everything is small...so the good - it was clean and room service was good and food consistent with most W's. Sorry Starwood - but this was a big miss.

Wow. This hotel is BEAUTIFUL. It has an ultra cool, modern vibe that you instantly feel when you walk through the door. My boyfriend and I were in Chicago for the weekend to see the Red Sox play the White Sox at U.S. Cellular field. It was our first time in Chicago and our first time staying at a W hotel - we were very pleased. The room was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, the living room bar was super cool and fun and we were within walking distance to a lot of great attractions and restaurants/bars. If we were going anywhere further away, we just hopped on the subway or the bus around the corner. It was great. We will DEFINITELY be back. One thing I will say is don't open ANTYHING in the room or you will be charged a fortune. NOTHING is free. Even the mini can of Pringles was $5. The bottled water was $9, I think. Stay away from all that like we did. Otherwise, it was fabulous!

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the front so you can see the street. Ours was in the back - next time I would d...

A fun place to stay, but by day three we were sick of the hot pink lighting, club music, and disco lights! This place makes you feel like you're in an episode of "sex in the city!" The holograms in the elevators made us motion sick every time! Very attentive staff and friendly service. Quiet room with large TV.

Was here on a conference for three days (if you're a business traveller, you know how grueling that can be), and the entire service staff (particularly Kelly M at the front desk), went far beyond the expected level of customer service to make sure the stay was comfortable. Highly recommended!
