The staffs were all very nice and patient (especially when my friend was the last person kayaking along the river). They made sure everyone was safe and small demonstration was helpful. It was safe throughout the kayaking experience. Overall it was adventurous and I would highly recommend this if tourist are looking for an active activity. We kayaked for 3 hours and it was a long path but very pretty scenery.

Took our 13 year old to do the architecture tour that they offer and fun was had by all. Our tour guide Sam was entertaining and informative. Learned things about the city of Chicago at I didn't know and I've lived in the area all my life. Our son got a little tired kayaking alone... Maybe we should of used a tandem kayak but he insisted he have a single. He made it but was worn out as it is a 3 hour tour. The Chicago river is very dirty but if you look up at the skyline your view is better. The skyscraper canyon!

Great adventure to see downtown Chicago from a different perspective and learn about how the river influenced the development of the city. They are very good about making sure you'll have a safe and enjoyable trip. Our trip was on a cooler, cloudy day but could see how important sun screen and water would be on a hot day. This is a 3 hour kayak trip so be prepared for a good upper body workout. Particularly the trip back to their dock is a long stretch of continuous paddling. Our family had a great time.

We used to live in the city and had been on lots of architecture tours, but it was fun to do something different. Yes, the river especially at the upper part is dirty, this is A big city, but the part of the river closer to Michigan Ave is pretty nice.
There are a couple of companies that do this, and we might have done one closer to the lake part of the river but this was the only daytime tour on the weekdays. Our guide was an architecture student and was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately this tour stops at the bridge right before the Wrigley building which was kind of a disappointment, as that is the nicest part of the river. If you aren't afraid of falling in the river there are lots of photo ops, but there was no way I wanted that to happen so opted for my memory!!
We all thought for the money it was a good time, good guides and good instruction for beginners. One of the benefits of the location is free parking, and also when you first get in the kayak there is lots of chance to practice before you start having to avoid other kayakers and boats.
As the weather was quite iffy the day before, I spoke to someone from the company when she called me back as we were also concerned about a refund if there was lightning and the trip was cancelled. The policy states you can apply it to another trip, but 4 of the 6 of us were from out of town, so that would not work and she said they would refund the money if they cancelled the trip. In general a very good experience. If its summer and its hot - WEAR A HAT! BRING WATER AND WEAR SUNSCREEN! There is no shade on this trip except for a few seconds under the bridges!

Don't forget sunscreen and water. Bring a change of clothes and wipes or something to clean off the river water. I think even if you're a local you'd enjoy seeing the city from the water. It's so peaceful compared to the crowds on North Michigan Ave. You can't get lost, so if you're an experienced sea kayaker you will enjoy going on your own.
