Description: Hot Woks Cool Sushi represents the culmination of a variety of Asian flavors. Although many of us have been raised in the traditional kitchens of our cultures, the diversity of our world has enabled us to experience and blend the best of many regions. Similar to the Asian philosophy of balance represented by the Ying Yang symbol, Hot Woks Cool Sushi strives to maintain the traditional balance of favorite classic dishes and seeks to merge the flavors of different ethnic regions to create a cultural evolution of taste.

I've hit this place a couple times now because it's on the way from my business to my hotel and when you're in the mood for sushi, then you just gotta have sushi.

Sushi is solid, decent Japanese beer selection, nice/warm environment and never crowded (at least when I have visited and when I have peeked inside walking by). Service is above average but not elite.

So, as the headline says... if you are in a "I gotta have sushi" mood and close by.. hit it up!

We were given a Christmas gift to attend "Sushi 101" class at Hot Woks Cool Sushi. We'd never been to the restaurant before and had no idea what to expect. I will tell you that we were beyond impressed.

Not only was the class a LOT of fun, but the food was fantastic. We were given a sampler of some of the sushi served here, We started with the Deviled Sushi Salad which is a small spring mix salad with AMAZING Sesame-Miso dressing (homemade) and topped with a deviled egg that has some salmon sashimi encased in it. Very creative and very good.

After the salad, we were given the Sushi Martini Appetizer. I would go back to this restaurant over and over again just for this appetizer. At the bottom of the glass is the "Crunchy Spicy Tuna Maki" which is fresh tuna with chili oil and mayo and coated with fabulous tempura crumb. On top of this sits the "Confusion Maki" which is sweet potato tempura enclosed in nori, rice and and red tobikko, topped with spicy shrimp and drizzled with mandarin orange aioli. Can I say, OH. MY. GOD!!

Our class then continued while the owner and his wife both gave us some comments about the restaurant and a short history of sushi. This was followed by a couple of the sushi chefs patiently showing us step by step how to create our own sushi rolls. They gave us everything we needed to do this, and if we got stuck, they were quick to help out. No judgment or laughter which was nice. :) The picture I've included are the finished rolls I created.

If the quality and freshness of the ingredients I had in the rolls I made are any indication of the rest of the food here, I can't wait to go back.

The owner and his wife were really great - very, very hospitable and friendly. The atmosphere is calming yet fun, and the food is fresh and creative and delicious. Take some time and check it out!

If you're at Willis Tower's sky deck, you need to drop by this place afterwards. It's just a block away but it's got a fun ambiance. A little crowded at early lunch but it seemed to empty out after 1 pm. Fresh sushi with come interesting rolls.

It can be a bit loud at lunch. The food is very good though. It gets packed so go early.
