Description: From the creators of The Gage comes Henri — energetically American, French influenced.   Heralded as an "instant classic", Henri offers fine dining without pretention. Under the direction of Executive Chef Chris Gawronski, Henri’s menu is influenced by the refining principles of classical cuisine. Innovative dishes like kampachi crudo join traditional favorites such as foie gras, steak tartare, Dover sole and ribeye au poivre. The tasting menu highlights the bounty of the season, accompanied by perfectly paired wines by sommelier Jason Wagner. The carefully curated wine list is almost exclusively biodynamic, while cocktails are both creative and classic. Reminiscent of a European salon, Henri provides an elegant respite from bustling Michigan Avenue.

“Quiet European elegance”

Our experience at Henri this evening was a genuine delight. The dining room (in an historic Louis Sullivan building on Michigan Ave.) is beautiful. The menu is carefully and expertly selected. Both my friend and I were knocked out by the preparation and presentation of our selections. The service by everyone involved could not have been better. People who can create an experience like this deserve to be rewarded and we offer our highest commendation. It's not inexpensive, but the value is clearly there.

“A night to remember”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

My husband surprised me for our anniversary to this elegant and classy outing. The outside view from the street was a bit unassuming but the quaint and romantic room was amazing. The menu was so superb that we could decide so went with the chefs course for $105 pp. We were NOT disappointed. The oyster shell Amuse pleased us tremendously but we were even more satisfied by each dish that was even more beautifully designed than the previous. I could go on and on but suggest you just try for yourself. The wine flight for $65.00 was the perfect combo for a perfect evening. The staff were wonderful and quite
knowledgable and got us out in exact time for our evening plans. Henri was magnificent!

“Classy”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

Henri (pronounced like the French "Henri" not Henry) is in walking distance from the Chicago orchestra hall, hence makes a good combination for an evening out. Small, cosy, with excellent attention. We just stopped by without reservation (bad idea) and they gave us a table for 4 with a 1.5 hour limit (which we exceeded).

Even under such an environment we didn't feel rushed nor pushed. We had 4 different starters and 4 different main courses which ALL of them were excellent, perfectly small sizes, balanced spices and flavor and cooked to perfection,
perfect steak tartar for us is always a good measure of quality. The potage was excellent too. Nothing to complain about.

The wine selection is matching and excellent too, however on the high price side.

Overall Henri offer New York quality but more affordable than New York, in Chicago.

“Sophisticated not snooty”
Reviewed November 16, 2013 via mobile

Sometimes it is hard to find an excellent restaurant with wonderful, imaginative food and great service even in a city like Chicago. Henri fits that bill perfectly! The menu is interesting and varied and everything we ordered (even Brussels sprouts!) was delicious -- sturgeon on kale, peekytoe crab appetizer with paper thin wisps of pear, veggie ravioli to delight my vegetarian friend, and salad). And our waiter made a suggestion for wine which was simply so sublime we did not mind the price. We tried several desserts and all were scrumptious -- especially Grand. Mariner soufflé and lavender Bavarois. Decor delightful -- feels like la Belle Époque translated for today.

“Authentic French Atmosphere, Service and Excellent Food in Chicago”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

I have been to this restuarant with friends, business aquatineces, and family atleast 10 times, and it has always been outstanding. The atmosphere and staff make it one of the most comfortable places to dine, and the food and changing menu, and wine list keep it fresh and interesting.

The sister restaurant the Guage (next door), is also a favorite of mine, if you can't get into Henri, but the atmosphere is more of a Irish Pub style.
