My family (two adults and two teenagers) asked for customized tour: mixture of architecture, Tiffany glass, Millennium park. No matter how much you try to choose the best tour during your precious vacation, it all depends on the tour guide :) Oh, my! We got it all! Judith is not just very knowledgeable tour guide, but also very talented story-teller, who makes hours fly like minutes. Thanks her work for city government she can tell stories you won't hear from tour guides, who learn the history by book. During the tour we got some rain and she kept us entertained and fascinated regardless which building we used for our cover :)!
Thanks, Judith!
Thanks to Mimi, we were able to have a fun tour of OLD TOWN, she has lots of information about the area, points out the different architecture of the houses, took us around the hidden corners, without her information we would have missed.
We had the priviledge to enter the Japanese Buddhism temple...the tour lasted 2.5 hrs never looked at my watch it was the highlight of my vacation..
Joe was our Walk Chicago guide sharing his knowledge and love of Chicago with us. Joe's enthusiasm brought Chicago's history alive and we saw the different phases of architecture, as well as decorative bronze insets, Tiffany decorative glass inset is walls, domes and chandeliers. What treasures are inside of buildings that we would have missed had we not taken this tour of the architecture around and in "the Loop".We are looking forward to our next visit to Chicago and to take the Gold Coast Tour from Walk Chicago. The walking tour is a great way to learn a city's history.
C is for the City that is explained by the passionate tour guide Terry Sullivan who was himself a product of Irish City beat cops.
H is for the History that comes to life your before your eyes as you trace the haves of the Gold Coast and the have nots or working class of Old Town.
I is for the Inspiration of those brave men and women who rebuilt Chicago and especially St Michael Catholic Church whose own story is a living legacy of German and Irish cooperation.
C is for the Countless immigrants who settled in the neighborhoods still preserving their culture and yet belonging to the melting pot of the new city forged from the Great Fire.
A is for the Architecture that puts a comfortable roof over our heads but is a visual monument that captures our soaring imagination.
G is for the Gap that has been closed between the great art and the magnificent skyline that frame this beautiful city.
O is for the Oppurtunity to walk the streets with a native Chicagoan and experince first hand what makes them proud to call this their home.
On a personal note I would like to thank Terry for tailoring the tour for my mother and being so accomdating to the handicapped. I love the ability to speak to a person and the only reservation is an agreement made from a phone call - throw back service that is most welcome.
Terry from Walk Chicago was our guide for two tours -- the Gold Coast and Little Italy. He is a passionate Chicagoan who loves to introduce visitors to the architecture and history of the Windy City. He was delighted to show us some out of the way places and provide us with personal insights into local politics and some colourful characters from Chicago's past. You'll be entertained and informed as you walk the streets with Terry. He also gave us great tips for dining and transit and encouraged us to try a typical Chicago Italian Beef Sandwich and sausage ... just like the locals!. Thanks again .. it was one of the highlights of our trip !!
I always try to do a walking tour in every city I visit as this is generally the best way to see a city, hear its stories and get past the obvious tourist highlights. Mimi Duginger with Walk Chicago Tours proved this principle again - she was excellent as she took us through Old Town, pointing out the hidden corners, taking us inside places we wouldn't have gone on our own and telling us one fascinating tale after another. The pace was perfect, the organisation was very efficient and Mimi was very engaging, friendly and helpful. Five stars for sure!
