“Terrific Weekend Stay”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

My wife and I stayed at this property in early December over a weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel management generously sent up a bottle of champagne and some strawberries. A very nice touch. The hotel itself is around the corner from the a stop on the L. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom was also large with nice fixtures and amenities. We took advantage of the concierge floor and had breakfast there both mornings. Even though it was extremely busy the food was always hot and there were plenty of great options. Most importantly to us, the staff throughout the entire hotel could not have been more accommodating and courteous whether it was the front desk staff, housekeeping or the concierge room attendants. A very well run hotel and we will be coming back again.

Thank you, as a Senior Reviewer within TripAdvisor, we are very appreciative of your detailed and complimentary review. Like many hotels in an urban location, business travel drives demand, but more and more often guests like yourself have discovered a more relaxed and leisurely side to our beautiful City and we are delighted that we could accommodate you during your visit.
Thank you especially for recognizing our staff, for they are truly the ones who deliver the experience and they all are grateful for the recognition in a public forum.

Stayed for a night on business, upscale luxury hotel
Good:
1. Rooms - Very well done, lots of dark wood, plush bed
2. Bath - Huge bath, the toilet enclosure was tiny
3. Staff - Very efficient and polite

Bad: Cannot think of anything..

I've stayed at the JW a few times while in Chicago on business. It is a well-run hotel right in the thick of the Loop - close to the CBOT, major banks, shopping, etc. The rooms are very comfortable, quiet, and fairly roomy. The amenities are excellent - the fitness center is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.

Very good, we’re not only happy you’ve found us and our location to be convenient to business while in Chicago, we appreciate you sharing your experience with our future guests.
As the premier luxury hotel in the Financial District, the transition of dining, shopping, and entertainment to the Loop has also been expedited since our opening in 2010. We’re happy you’ve attributed to this demand and growth, and excited to have you witness the continuing transformation as time goes by. We truly appreciate the positive review and recommendation.

I'm in an end - read absolutely the farthest away from the guest elevator that one can be - room, but that is okay. I got a few extra steps in today when my key didn't work after returning from dinner. But other than the distance (room ending in 55), the room is perfectly lovely, quiet, and accommodating. It is not the best working area, and the desk does not have enough spots to plug in electronics, but there are other plugs around the room. The mini bar is stocked, though the cashews were definitely stale. Very stale (I was desperate). I like the reading lights over each side of both double beds that shine some but not too much light. The room was clean. The bed is comfortable, and the bathroom is huge! Definitely room for two people to spread out if they need to accommodate a lot of toiletries or hair styling equipment. View is of the Brooks Brothers across the street and offices, but at least Brooks Brothers had Christmas trees in the window to brighten the atmosphere.

Thank you for the high marks, and apologies for any inconveniences. It should be noted your remarks are reviewed by the management team of the hotel, and would request in the future to let us remedy any issues while you are still in our care, our intent is to provide you with the most pleasant and memorable stay possible.
Granted, due to the historical nature of our building and placement of elevators, there is a bit of a walk to the rooms on the east side, but hopefully you noticed the artwork and lighting to reflect more of a residential feel to the hallways rather than a typical hotel. The reward lies in the view however, as yours was of one of Chicago’s most noteworthy architectural gems, the Rookery Building.
While we of course appreciate good commentary, we also recognize occasional shortcomings and hope that we will have the opportunity to have you as our guest again soon and please allow us to see every aspect of your stay is beyond perfect.

And that's saying something as I'm platinum with Marriott and SPG.

Great rooms, OMG amazing executive lounge - Gilberto is fantastic. Overall beautiful and classly hotel right in the heart of the financial district.

If you have status with Marriott, this is a MUST stay hotel. I would recommend this hotel over the W across the street any day. This is what defines a luxury hotel.

Indeed! For those who may not be aware, our Platinum guests spend no less than 75 nights per year in a Marriott branded hotel, equating to minimally two months on the road. We sincerely value your loyalty and insight, and when we have merited your praise it definitely has added significance.
Thank you for the kind review and recognition of Gilberto, we’re proud of all of our staff but the Executive Lounge team has set us apart from the competition. While your Platinum status allows you complimentary access to the Executive Lounge, we do afford the opportunity to all of our guests willing to spend a little extra for an upgrade. That being said however, hopefully they too will someday become a distinguished elite member on their own accord.
We’re happy to have you as our guest, and look forward to continuing a very long and mutually beneficial relationship.

Stayed for one night to visit a few museums. Big lobby with plenty of chairs/couches. Had a nice room with a few paintings, comfortable king bed, big bathroom with deep tub and separate shower. Large TV with more than 80 satellite channels, including some HD.

Excellent gym for a hotel (about 8 treadmills and six ellipticals, plus various strength machines and a few free weights). Pool and hot tub next to gym in the basement. TV on the cardio equipment.

Location is excellent, a couple blocks from the Blue line train to the airport (1 hour many stops), and a 10-15 minute walk to the Art Institute of Chicago, 30 minute walk (20 from the AIC) to the Field museum and Shedd aquarium. The only negative is that they charge for internet. Other Marriotts and JWs that I have stayed at comp the internet for Marriott members but they only do it for Gold (which required 50 days/year). The lobby WiFi was free and fast. Free WiFi would have yielded 5 stars.

Be careful with the minibar as the cans/bottles are on sensors, so if one is removed and returned, it shows up on you bill.

The JW in Chicago is very conveniently located in the center of downtown - easy walking distance from many offices and dining choices. Was greeted at the door and assisted quickly through the check in process. Very nice accomodations.
