Used to be nice to drive around and look at some great old buildings. Hard to do now since the president has a home there.

“Hyde Park”
Reviewed January 7, 2012

Historic area that is near a university. You can take a walking tour and view the campus and neighborhood with Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

“Hyde Park= Best Neighborhood in Chicago”
Reviewed January 14, 2010

In a nutshell, Hyde Park is a vibrant, multicultural community full of museums, affordable restaurants, historic homes, and great parks, including a beautiful (albeit small) beach.

Must see & do:
--Jackson Park/Osaka Garden ( A large, quiet city park developed by the designers who created Central Park in NYC. Osaka Garden, located within the park, is a breath-taking, traditional Japanese strolling garden with a pagoda, moon bridge, and lagoon)
--Museum of Science and Industry
--Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House
--Obama's family home & the historic homes nearby
--Outdoor Ice skating on the Midway & 59th
--Bookshopping-- Check out Powells, 57th Street Books, Ogara & Wilson, Seminary Coop
--Dinner at the Medici, Park 52, or Calypso Cafe
--Live jazz and blues at the Checkerboard

I love Hyde Park so much that I write a travel blog about it! Check me out at http://mshydepark.blogspot.com/

“Rode through while on Trolley Tour”
Reviewed August 9, 2009

This is also the old neighborhood of President Obama. We rode pass his home which wasnt visible due to trees. We seen a former house of Muhammand Ali's. Also the tour guy said this area is known for politicians to live. I thought the parts I seen were ok. This was part of the north neighborhood tours through the Chicago Trolley Tours. My mother wanted to see where Obama once stayed. So we did it for this reason. This tour also showed us the schools where Obama's daughters attend before moving to DC. If you are in Chicago for a vacation and want to see a neighborhood I say go for this since you can say you seen the Presidents old stomping grounds. That is if you care to. If not pass it.
