Description: This is a new restaurant from the house of Bannos (owners of the infamously popular Heaven on Seven, here in Chicago). They have now opened what could affectionately be called the foodie tourists' dream come true, with everything from bone marrow to fried pig's ears and fresh ricotta as well as a nice selection of paninis, and of course, the wines. Not to mention: Its right on the Magnificent Mile!

Because this place is basically on Michigan Ave, it is constantly jammed. Lots of tourists and businessfolk, but because of that the vibe is pretty lively and fun. A great place to check out if you're staying in one of the hotels in the area...way better than anything else on the Mag Mile. Def worth the wait

“Excellent cured meat and cheeses”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2013

Went to The Purple Pig for lunch on a Saturday afternoon during summer. The place gets pretty crowded so come early to avoid the que. We could pick a spot straight away by arriving at 11h30. We were seated at one of the high tables which are excellent places to mingle with other guests.

We ordered a combination of cured meats, cheeses and vegetable dishes; this is the type of place were you just order a combination of smaller dishes and share. All were of excellent quality, the wine on offer was also very good. Staff was very polite and knowledgeable.

Would recommend The Purple Pig for lunch or dinner with groups of friends. Might be to crowded for romantic getaways. Waiting time could be too long for a business meeting.

“Foodie heaven!”

If you are looking for a basic burger, this isn't the place. At Purple Pig, look for creative dishes and an amazing wine list (and bartenders, as well, who are extremely knowledgable and can help you explore new wine regions and flavors). No reservations accepted but it's worth the wait. Carve out your space at the bar, it's a perfect spot to watch such great cuisine come to life!

“Good food, busy restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

We went to the Purple Pig on a Thursday night. The restaurant was PACKED! The food was very good-especially the cheese selection. We really enjoyed the milk braised pork shoulder as well and even tried one of the special cured meats, which was shaved pig tongue that had been brined and cooked in red wine vinegar and sugar (it was surprisingly very good!). I would recommend this restaurant to all, however if you're looking for a more quiet, laid back experience, this isn't for you. You are seated at tables with others you don't know, which isn't a bad thing, just a heads up for everyone. Our server was really good and was great at walking us through the menu.
