All previous reviews paint an accurate picture. Having decided on a Kimpton Hotel we deliberated between the Palomar and the Monaco. Location was the key to choosing the Palomar and it was indeed very well situated for our interests which ranged both north and south of the river, with the red line immediately adjacent.
We found the staff helpful though not always forthcoming. Two days into our stay we discovered the card (in the bathroom !) that detailed the option to order up a kettle and coffee maker. This hugely improved our daily life.
The rooms are spacious and well furnished. Room service is excellent.
Billing was a mystery. Deals were arriving thick and fast via email during our stay but, despite polite discussion at the desk, we did not ever fully understand the rates quoted or billed to us. It worked out but only after negotiation and a significant credit.
Sable restaurant is fabulous for dinner but book ahead if you need a specific time for a table.
I would suggest paying the base rate and breakfasting out if you are not pushed for time. Breakfast is good but not as excellent as the dinner fare.
Shopping is very close and Eatily is one block over!
Now I know how to play the Palomar I would stay again. Rooms with xx01 on the upper floors have a distant lake view. More
