“A nice retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

The Palomar Hotel was recommended to me by a friend when I was having no luck getting a room at my usual Chicago Hotel!! now the Palomar will be my usual!! great location, beautiful rooms,a thoughtful and attentive staff. Because coffee is served in the lobby in the morning, you have to request a coffee maker for your room, I did, it came immediately and I was a happy girl!! The evening wine reception is a lovely touch although my business took me out of the hotel much later than the 5 - 6 time of service..if I could, I'd make it 5-7 for us trade show folks who are working til 6!! the breakfast in Sable is delicious!! The room was spacious, clean, well lit, and very comfortable. there were plenty of outlets for charging various devices and the towels are nice and thirsty!! I recommend this hotel!!

The hotel was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, however some of the fixtures need attention. The phone by the bed did not work, the chair at the desk needed replacing with the leather have worn through in places. The banquet facilities were nice. If a member of their frequent hotel plan you get free wifi which is a nice benefit.

Dear Stephen S,

I thank you for taking the time to share your review on Trip Advisor. So sorry about your phone not functioning properly. Definitely something we should have caught prior to your arrival. And thank you also for your feedback on your desk chair showing wear. We are working to replace such worn items in the near future. Good to hear that you enjoyed the rest of your stay, though, and we do hope you will choose us again the next time you are in Chicago.

Kind regards,

Every stay at this hotel is a pleasure. Big rooms, great wifi, well-appointed gym (although it's not huge), friendly staff. The bar has a fantastic cocktail list and the bar snacks are tasty if you're not looking for a full meal. I try to stay here every time I'm in Chicago.

We stayed on a Saturday-Sunday in September. First off, ALL of the staff were friendly and accommodating! We were so impressed. The free wine hour was a great bonus. They served Chardonnay & Merlot along with some gourmet pizzas that made a nice light appetizer. They even told us we could invite friends who weren't staying there if we'd like. The rooms were beautiful & upscale. The animal print robes, umbrella & yoga mat were neat little bonuses for us to use. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was nice and quiet! We did use late night room service and were very pleased with the timeliness and quality. The location is great! Many restaurants within a block, and Michigan Avenue was about 3 blocks away! The Red Line is also only about a block away. We will be sure to return!!!

As expected a hip, comfortable hotel. The only problem was the noise from the street. Ambulances and fire trucks could be heard all night long from State Street. The reviews that say this is a quite hotel did not stay at the same hotel we were at. The best part of the hotel was Sable -- one of the best resteraunts in Chicago -- located right off the hotel lobby. Also, another infuriating $59.00 charge for parking the car overnight. Would stay here again but the rental car will not be coming with us. The hotel was in a perfect location for shopping even though it was not on Michigan Ave. The room was clean and spacious even for a smaller room. The only other negative was no coffee on Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. After watching OU beat Notre Dame and then catching a 9:00 a.m. flight, coffee should be in the lobby by 6:30 a.m.

Dear Soonerpack,

I thank you for staying with us and for sharing your comments here with the Trip Advisor community. We are definitely in a vibrant and energetic part of town, which does come with those inevitable "city sounds" that you mentioned. I whole-heartedly agree that Sable is one of the best in Chicago. I cannot recommend it enough to both our hotel guests, as well as Chicago area dining enthusiasts. I certainly understand the decision to not rent a car for your next visit, Although our $58/night parking charge is steep, this amount is actually about 5% less per night than the average parking costs of our hotel counterparts in the city. Glad you were able to enjoy your Sooners victory while here in Chicago and we hope to see you again in the future!

Thank you,

Adam Gurgiolo

The Palomar Chicago is well located with many restaurants and shops close by. They have bicycles available, but the traffic made me wonder about the wisdom of cycling in the city. Each morning there is complimentary coffee and tea in the living room and each evening there is a complimentary wine hour with their yummy signature flatbreads. The rooms are comfortable and well designed with a desk, comfy chair, space on the built-in for a roll-a-board suitcase, good pillows, a nightstand with extra outlets, and fluffy towels in the bathroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Two members of my team (10 total) had difficulty with their reservations; it is unclear if the message didn't make it from convention housing to the hotel or if one or the other made a mistake. It all worked out, partially with arguing on my part.

I recommend this hotel for business and pleasure travel. It is much cozier than the large chains nearby.

We chose the Palomar because of the looks, the decoration and the reviews here, and we were not disappointed. When we arrived there were some troubles with our reservation (only 1 room instead of 2: not funny if you just survived a 9-hour flight and just want to rest a bit), but that was not the fault of the hotel but the fault of the travel-agent. Even though, the hotel felt responsible and they gave the 4 of us free breakfast for all 5 days. Great gesture!
The restaurant deserves a special comment here: Sable is beyond great! It is one the highest recommended restaurants in Chicago and I understand that completely. Breakfast is very good and dinner is even better. Superb wines and a beautiful menu.
Last but not least; the hotel has bikes that guests can use for free, so we had a great day biking through Chicago.
Overall I would definitely advise anyone to stay here!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room. We had one and the views are great!!

Dear BarbaraKralingen,

So sorry to hear that there were some issues upon your arrival with regards to the number of rooms reserved. Very happy to hear that we were able to rectify this as I do know how frustrating that could be after a 9 hour flight as you mentioned! I certainly do agree with you on Sable and thank you so much for your high praise of your dining experiences. Also glad to hear that you were all able to take advantage of our biking option around the city. I want to thank you for this review and for your business. Both are greatly appreciated.

Safe travels to you and your family,
