“Great hotel and location”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

This is a great hotel and is in a wonderful location. Within walking distance to almost everything. We walked to shopping on State Street and Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, the "Bean", the Architectural Boat Tour, cafes, restaurants and more. Rooms are comfortable, clean and the shower is wonderful.
The evening wine reception, or "happy hour" as we called it was such a treat. Wine and pizza is served during the reception. Refreshing lemon water is available throughout the day and good coffee and a variety of teas is offered in the morning.
Mark, the concierge, is a gem. He is a wealth of information and is always willing to answer any questions and give recommendations.
Given the hotel's proximity to a fire station, sirens are regulary heard although this wouldn't deter us from staying there again.

We stayed here recently for 3 nights for an anniversary celebration. We really enjoyed this hotel. The location was perfect- within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. The evening wine reception was great. They also have very good complimentary coffee in the lobby in the mornings. We used the workout room- equipment was in good condition. My husband took a swim as well but said the pool wasn't quite big enough to really swim laps- not a big deal as space is limited in this area, and we didn't even realize they had a pool until we got there. We had a 1 bedroom suite which was a good size- had an L shaped sectional couch which was the perfect spot for a lazy Saturday afternoon movie. I loved the Fuji tub. And our room was very quiet. Our suite was near the elevator, but positioned right around the corner so we heard NO elevator related noise, and I don't think we shared a common wall with anyone. I heard one voice in the hallway in 3 days. (Thurs-Sun, hotel was full I think...). Room service was somewhat overpriced, but it usually is. All in all would definitely recommend and stay there again.
One thing to note, as other reviewers have said, is you do get free WiFi if you sign up for their Kimpton rewards program- we did this, and I was hoping to use our stay toward accruing rewards, but wasn't able to since we had booked the reservation through a 3rd party. They say they have a price match guarantee so it might be worth joining the program ahead of time and booking through Kimpton.

Room Tip: 1 bedroom suite was very quiet- appears they are in a different part of the hallway than the regular...

Dear gmansmom:

Thank you so much for the review you posted. We are thrilled that you and your husband enjoyed the suite and jacuzzi tub. It is a great bathroom.

I also agree that it makes abolsute sense to join our free loyalty program, Kimpton in Touch - the perks and benefits that come with it are well worth it.

Thanks again - see you soon.

Location-very convenience only few steps to Red-Grand train station and bus station is outside the hotel where you can take bus#29 to Navy Pier; because it is located in city center, you will hear club music, firefighter, and ambulance swing by day&night, so for ppl who have light sleep, make sure bring your ear plugs.

Staffs-all the staffs are friendly, front desk tried his best to accomplish my special request and checked me in 17th floor however, the room was closed to the gym, so it wasn't a quiet room. The staff was willing to move us to another room but on 7th floor...(I guess there just no such thing called perfect), but at least they tried.

Housekeeping had done a great job to keep the room clean.

Room Tip: Don't check in the room closed to the gym on 17th floor. Ear plugs are needed if you can sleep...

we stayed here for a weekend in december. it was a beautiful hotel in a great location. it was close enough that we were able to walk and see the nutcracker at the auditorium theatre. i love walking int he city! the evening wine hour is a nice little added bonus. especially for the great price we paid on expedia. they also have a wonderful pool on the top and the kids were quite impressed. they even gave all the kids a little bag with fun toys and things for them to do. it's nice when children are thought of and made felt welcome in such nice hotels. i will definitely go back to this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: the views are great when up high

We stayed with another couple for four days in early May. It was sort of a spur of the minute type of trip and we selected Chicago and the Palomar because they had a Picasso pkg. We were not disappointed. The hotel staff was outstanding, especially Bobby the concierge, who was very helpful. The evening "Happy Hour" was a real treat as we were there on Cinqo de Mayo and they actually served beverages consistent with the Mexican theme. If we go back to Chicago, we will stay at the Palomar and also consider other Kimpton hotels.

This was our first visit to Chicago. The hotel is in a great location for walking the River North area. Only a few blocks from Michigan ave, a 15 minute walk to the Navy Pier/Millenium park/John Hancock Tower, 5 minutes from the House of Blues and close to many restaurants.

The area is very safe. We walked all around the area and didn't have any problems.

We didn't take dress clothes which proved to be a challenge in this area for finding a restaurant without a dress code. The Rock Bottom brewery is right across the screen. Great home brew and food. The House of Blues had really good food and great music. We aren't big deep dish pizza fans and found a little place called Bongiorno's Italian Pizzeria tucked behind the Trump Tower that served delicious thin crust pizza and gelato for dessert - It's a hidden gem for thin crust pizza fans!

We highly recommend the Chicago's First Lady Architectural boat ride. The volunteer guide was passionate about architecture and gave us a great 90 tour of the city.

The hotel was clean/quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
