“Amazing weekend”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

We stayed in room 619 this past weekend from Friday to Sunday. The room had a figi soaking tub that was plenty big enough for two. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed that I had ever slept in. So much so that I checked out the label on the mattress, it was a selle Postropedic. We had bath robes and plenty of towels. The mini bar had a great selection and even the shampoo/conditioner was great. We had planned to stay at this hotel because we wanted a relaxing weekend away. I met my bf there who is currently working in Dallas and we rarely see each other. We splurged on the fancy room only to find out that there was a wedding reception directly below us Saturday night. It was so loud the room, bed, lights, we shaking. We could hear what people were saying and Shazam the songs from our room. It was not relaxing one bit and a total bummer. Had we had known prior that this would be the case, we would have stayed elsewhere or requested the best room they had up farther from the event. But we really wanted that bathtub. So we called down to the front desk not so much to complain but to see when the reception would be over. It still had another 2 hours left and I was not relaxing at all. We didn't want to ruin anyone's time or be "those people". They did offer to move us up to the 8th floor but that would have been a standard room with a double bed and moving at 10pm did not sound appealing. The manager Gad called us back and was truly apologetic. He wanted to make things right and ended up comping our second night. He also gave us great restaurant recommendations and we ended up leaving for a few hours just to get some quiet. Gad also let us have extended check out until 4 pm the next day at no charge. This was perfect since my bf flew out at 9pm. The moral of this lengthy story is that although we were really bummed about the dance party in our room, the manager went out of his way to make it right. I was SO BUMMED when it came time to leave and I have already begun looking for future dates to stay there. The pool was beautiful and the room service food (from Sable) was wonderful as well. All in all, a wonderful experience at the Palomar. After walking the magnif. mile, it was fantastic to bring a glass of wine down to the "living room" to warm up by the fire. Truly a great place.

Room Tip: If staying on 6th floor on a Saturday, ask about wedding receptions being held that night.

I stay here often - great location but a fantastic staff. The room is always clean, everything works, and they usually manage to surprise you with something nice.

Smiles from the doorman to the front desk . . .

We were thrilled with this hotel. Staff were gracious and fun, not stuffy. The overall feeling we got from the hotel was welcome and relaxed, not snooty at all. Upon check in, the kids were given goody bags with toys and blow up beach balls to play with in the pool. They were out of goldfish to borrow but oh well. The rooms were fantastic, clean and upscale. We had a corner double queen unit and windows overlooked the city. The location was great. Rush street and michigan ave were both in easy walking distance and options for eating abound. The pool was nice, clean and open, lots of fluffy white towels available. We went to the wine reception in the evening, which was lovely. Great chatting with other guests and relaxing before going out into the city for dinner (reminded me of a bed and breakfast type thing). I would definitely recommend signing up for Kimpton rewards prior to your stay, even if you hotwired or pricelined the room. With membership you get a $10 coupon for mini bar, free wifi and free newspaper in the morning. I would say that this hotel is the nicest we have ever stayed at in chicago, and we had a regular room. That's saying alot. It was also the most enjoyable atmosphere. I hate snooty and I really felt at home here, relaxed and able to be ourselves (kids and all!). There's a good reason this hotel rated top 25 on trip advisor for 2011!

Room Tip: Corner rooms have more windows.

Booked right through the hotel's website, the rate I got was great for the River North area of Chicago, and the location was in walking distance of a ton of restaurants, nightlife, shopping and touristy sites. I could easily walk to the Magnificent Mile and the River, and there is a red line subway stop half a block away.

Check in was a breeze and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The room I received was a corner room with one king bed, which was outstanding. The room size was not huge but definitely generous, and the in-room amenities worked well: wifi was fast, iPod docking station was easy to use, and the TV has lots of channels. The corner room afforded a ton of natural light, which I enjoyed.

My only criticism of the room is that the bathroom is a bit small. It was planned for efficiency, but the toilet and shower are pretty close together. Otherwise the shower was nice and always had hot water.

The complimentary morning coffee and evening wife reception are also really nice perks.

I'm a Kimpton In-Touch member and enjoy their properties, and Palomar Chicago keeps the company standard high.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room if they have them, and become an In-Touch member to get free wifi and a miniba...

This hotel is in an excellent location, within walking distance of the theater district, many restaurants, and great Chicago sites.
The management is exceptional.
The room was very, very clean and quiet.
I recommend this hotel to business persons traveling to Chicago and to couples.

Room Tip: End of the hall rooms are very quiet.
