I stayed here for a long weekend with my two adult daughters. I have travelled extensively around the world and stayed at some very good hotels but this has to be one of the best ever. The staff were kind and considerate. They did not hesitate when I requested to keep one room until 2.30 p.m. on the day of checkout. Although hotel food is not always the best, the 2 restaurants ( one casual , one fine dining) are as good as you find anywhere with amazing menus and terrific knowledgeable wait staff. Fabulous spa and lap pool, great workout room. This is 5 stars all around!

stayed one night at the elysian because the hotel we own in chicago was sold out for the night... i wanted to see what i had heard so much about on a first hand basis... i've traveled to numerous hotels around the country at the top of the food chain and the elysian easily stands next to the very best of them... very elegant... very cool - but not THAT kind of cool... loved everything about the hotel from the people greeting you when you arrive in the courtyard to the beautiful room with a fireplace and lcd tv that magically appears in the bathroom mirror to the out of the way perfect little bar on the 2nd floor... from one hotel owner to another, you have a great hotel on every level imaginable - perfect!!!

The Elysian is absolutely incredible. From the beginning of our stay, and straight to the end, the service was very attentive and graceful. The property itself is very beautiful with its contemporary take on art deco style. Our suite was on the ninth floor, had a separate living room and bedroom, a large foyer with a kitchenette (with microwave), two large closets, and a fabulous marble bathroom.

The decor was all in soft tones of grey, the only hits of colour being in the art on the walls. All of the furniture and materials were fresh, luxurious, and comfortable, and the suite was kept meticulously clean. The bathroom had some very stylish features such as the marble mosaic, frosted glass-walled shower and lavatory, and the mirror with a concealed plasma screen. The Asprey amenities were also a stylishly luxe touch.

The only downside of the suite was the view. We did call ahead and asked for a room with a panoramic view, but as we were on a lower floor, the only view we had was of the "900 North Michigan Self-Park". Though this was offset by the fact that the suite felt like a luxurious cocoon. Other than that, the suite was amazing with the working gas fireplace in the living room and the desk in the window alcove.
The food at the Elysian was also surprisingly good and far above average hotel quality. On our first night at the hotel we dined at Balsan on the third floor. The food was classic bistro (roast chicken for two- perfect!), with discreet service, elegant ambiance, and was surprisingly affordable. We also ordered from in-room dining several times, as the food was very good quality (including beautifully presented charcuterie and cheese), the service was prompt, and again, it was more affordable than most five-star hotels.

The spa and fitness centre at the Elysian were also stunning. Though the lap pool was narrow, it was quite large and was new and clean. The design was light, bright, and airy and was a refreshing respite from the unusually hot and humid May weather.
In other reviews, there have been complaints about the Elysian's location. We actually found the location to be quite decent, and wished we had had time to wander around the surrounding area. The area was far quieter than right on North Michigan Avenue. Though there is a deteriorated half-block of brownstones across the street most of the surrounding area was decent at worst. There were several upscale shops in and within a couple block's radius of the hotel. After all, Marc Jacobs has a boutique on the ground floor of the hotel, Diesel is on the opposite corner, and Tory Burch is a block away.

The Elysian also has a no-tipping policy in place, therefore we were not required to tip the staff, though an eighteen percent service charge is added to all food orders. Other reviewers on this sight have deemed this service charge outrageous, but generally you would tip the same amount anyway and the service was worth it. All staff, including those at reception and the concierge were friendly and immensely helpful, and gave many good recommendations.

The weekend we stayed there was also the Chicago restaurant convention. The Elysian was at nearly ninety percent capacity, and they did not miss a beat. We travel extensively, and the Elysian Chicago really is a special experience. I loved the Elysian and I would rot hesitate to return.

The Elysian Hotel is everything a great hotel should be. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the front door and front desk staffs who made us feel comfortable and welcome.

The superior king room included two closets, bar with in-room ice (!), fireplace, small living room area, comfortable bed and beautiful Carrera marble bathroom (with soaking tub and tv built into the mirror).

We traveled to Chicago to meet with friends who are regulars at The Peninsula. They joined us for a champagne toast at our room, and determined the Elysian room was more comfortable and trendy than the room at The Peninsula, which is also lovely, but rather traditional in its approach to luxury decor and room design. They agreed the next time they are in town, they will stay at the Elysian too.

The only downside to this hotel was slow service in the bar area. Otherwise, it was absolutely perfect. The customer base seemed to include a mix of business types, couples and singles. The pool and spa areas are not conducive to children, though the hotel did offer a children's room service menu.

The Elysian is luxury at its finest.

From the moment we arrived at the Elysian for a girls' weekend, we were treated like royalty. The concierge was so friendly and helpful. Everyone was smiling all the time, and the no tipping policy was great. The hotel was beautiful and well insulated from city noise. They allowed us to check in early at 9 am which enabled us to freshen up from our flight and enjoy a wonderful day shopping Michagan Avenue. Our only complaint was that we couldnt stay longer. Thanks to Elysian for giving four Southern belles a wonderful stay in the windy city!

I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the Elysian team for the assistance you provided in making my stay in Chicago comfortable and enjoyable. Every member of the staff whom I came in contact with was not only friendly and approachable but very efficient, too. Better still, they all seemed rather "cheerful". I've stayed in many top luxury hotels and the Elysian provided me with the best service, the best room and the most helpful staff.

Our family has stayed at some fantastic hotels around the world, e.g., The Milestone Hotel in London, England, The New York Palace Hotel, NY & Hotel Okura, Tokyo, Japan - and I have to say the Elysian Hotel in Chicago, IL, is in a class by itself. From the moment you drive into the surprising and beautiful courtyard (you cannot believe you are in the middle of a major urban centre in America) and are greeted warmly by professional, (unpretentious), welcoming staff - you know you are in for a wonderful hotel experience. The Elysian opened in December '09, so everything is new; but, the property has an 'old world', classic feel with beautiful, contemporary detailing. The fabulous amenities (e.g., restaurants, spa & fitness centre), location (!) and the staff are all tremendous and you will feel at home here. We encourage you to visit their website to see for yourself. Elegant, comfortable and impeccable. It is a MUST-stay!
