Certificate of Excellence

I spent a couple of days in Chicago and had the pleasure of being a guest at the Elysian. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the accommodations are designed to pamper. The room had a magnificent view of downtown Chicago, was modern in a very refined way and felt very residential. The spa and fitness facility was the best I have experienced. All the equipment was state of the art and included Pilates and Gyrotonic programs. The indoor lap pool was treated with saline instead of chlorine and featured a beautifully serine lounging area. The mens locker room was unparalleled. The staff was very attentive and genuinely interested in making you comfortable in any way possible. Chicago is my favorite city and this made a fabulous trip even better.

The moment you enter this hotel, you can tell something is different. It doesn't feel like a hotel. There is little of the lobby craziness of most hotels, and there is only a small desk. They take your luggage and provide you with at tag that states, "don't worry, we will treat your luggage like it is our own." There is an elegant European feel to everything. The staff is extremely friendly.

We were fortunate to get upgraded to a small suite, which was beautifully appointed, in an elegant an contemporary style. Great fireplace to keep warm in the cold Chicago winters. During our stay, we truly felt like we were living in a condo on the Gold Coast with great service. Te mini-bar is unlike any we have seen with drawers that are refrigerated (and one that is a freezer for ice (very nice).

We have stayed at both The Four Season, and The Talbott (among other downtown Chicago Hotels). This hotel is our new favorite. The perfect combination of service and quality in an outstanding location. The hotel also has a no tipping police (which staff members informed us of - or a gratuity was included and notated on the bill...in the bar for example). We tipped a few of them anyhow, but it was not expected.

All in all, this is one of the finest hotels we have experienced.

Initially I was not too sure to stay at this to me unknown hotel, but everything was wonderful. On arrival the lobby seemed to be very minimalistic but had a more secluded area with fireplace and free morning coffee offerings. The 'room' was actually very residential, had a fireplace and beautiful furniture. the bathroom must have been one of the largest I have seen in a very long time. The only critic would be the distance from the superlarge walk in shower to the towel holder...oh and there was no handshower - if someone would like to use the shower but doesn't want their hair wet,one needs to go into the bathtub.
Their service policy is an astounding one for the US: No tips! This was certainly a first.
Overall very engaged & smiley employees, great room product and perfect location - I'll give it 4.5 out of five.

I was at the Elysian for an event and it was amazing. I didn't get to stay here overnight, but spent an evening in their Hemingway Room. It was a beautiful space with great staff. They were so friendly and helpful and really made you feel like nothing was too much trouble.

The food was FANTASTIC, too. I'd love to go back and spend a weekend. Beautiful spot.

Dear Guest,
I’m delighted to read you enjoyed the event at the hotel. Although we didn’t have a chance to welcome you as an overnight guest, I’m hopeful you’ll think about us on your next trip to the states. Thanks so much for your great comments!

The Elysian scored on all factors for me. The staff was extraordinarily polite and helpful; the property is clean, beautiful, quiet and comfortable; the location is excellent; and the value was extraordinary (~$225 for one night). On the value side, I think my firm negotiated an exceptionally good price because we had a number of people staying there, so readers of this review should not consider my rate indicative of what they can secure. My room was extremely spacious ... a suite on the 7th floor that had a very generous sleeping area, with a small cluster of upholstered chairs and a functioning gas fireplace at the end of my bed. There was a small bar area that had cubed ice stocked in the ice freezer. The mini bar was well-stocked and not overly expensive compared to some. The bathroom was very spacious and had a cool TV in the mirror that went undisclosed when turned off. Temperature in the room was easy to adjust, and the king bed and linens were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this for business travelers and for a romantic couples weekend in the Windy City. By the way, it was refreshing that the staff would not accept tips under any circumstance.

We needed a stress break from life and planned a trip to Chicago to unwind over Labor Day. Our normal stays have been at the Four Season, Ritz Carlton and Penninsula, but this time we decided to try the Elysian as it's new and based upon the reviews.

The hotel exceeded our expectations by providing prompt efficient service by staff members who, while all very young, demonstrated on a routine basis that they had been very well trained. Our junior suite was exceptional with a cozy sitting room, wonderful bedroom, dressing area and large bathroom. Ammenities included a wet bar with cook top, pull out refrigerator and freezer, wonderful bathroom products, cozy robes, full strength wireless signal compliments of the in-room router antenna, and a small but adequate balcony with two chairs and a table. Two flat screen TV's, one in the bathroom mirror and a working fireplace.

We both used the exercise facility which inclused Pilates equipment and new cardio and weights. The SPA was excellents as were the treatments.

The only drawbacks were a bit of a lighting issue in the bathroom. The female half of the party commented that it was not make-up friendly. And, upon check-out I opted for the email invoice which I never received.

We were so relaxed we carried in food one night and enjoyed excellent room service the next.

Arrival and departure experience was excellent despite the hotel accommodating a large wedding party.

While not an inexpensive place to stay, it is one of those properties you will remember and which was ultimately worth the price.
